Hattersley Fig. 950 Semi-Lugged Wafer Butterfly Valve PN16
Description
Semi-lugged ductile iron butterfly valve with aluminium bronze disc and EPDM liner
The Hattersley Fig. 950 is a PN16 semi-lugged wafer pattern butterfly valve with a ductile iron body, lever operated; the Fig. 950G is the same valve with a gearbox. The data sheet describes a robust ductile iron body for long service, a semi-lugged body that fits PN10, PN16 or Class 125 flanges, an integrated notch plate for a more compact design and an anti-blow-out stem. A fully bonded epoxy paint system gives corrosion resistance suitable where Level 3 C3 (medium) corrosion protection is required.
The valve is described as maintenance free and may be used for flow regulation. It conforms to BS EN 593 with face-to-face dimensions to BS EN 558. Valves of DN250 and larger are supplied as standard with a fully enclosed gear operator, which is why the 950G geared table covers up to DN600.
Features and benefits
- Semi-lugged body to suit PN10, PN16 or ANSI Class 125 flanges (DN50 to DN300)
- Sizes DN350 to DN600 are for PN16 flanges only
- Aluminium bronze disc, EPDM liner and PTFE bushes
- Anti-blow-out stem and integrated notch plate
- Epoxy-coated ductile iron body; centring holes; trigger lever
- Suitable for flow regulation; maintenance free design

Geared Fig. 950G sizes run from DN50 to DN600. The sheet gives Kv for the geared range of 98 at DN50, 4555 at DN250, 7037 at DN300, 6003 at DN350, 8885 at DN400, 10419 at DN450, 13613 at DN500 and 17801 at DN600. Weight with gearbox is 7.1 kg at DN50, 19.6 kg at DN200, 54.0 kg at DN300 and 260 kg at DN600; bare-shaft weights are printed as well. The sheet notes Kv is for the fully open position.
Selection and ordering guide
Order by figure number, nominal size and operator. The Fig. 950 is the lever valve for DN50 to DN200; for DN250 and above, or where a geared operator is wanted on smaller sizes, specify the Fig. 950G. Confirm the flange standard on the pipework: the semi-lugged body is drilled by flange slots for PN16 and Class 125, but DN350 and above only suit PN16. Because the liner is EPDM and the rated temperature range runs to 130 C, check that the fluid is compatible with EPDM; oils and hydrocarbons are generally unsuitable for this elastomer, which is general engineering knowledge and not stated on the sheet.
Installation and operation notes
The sheet gives no separate installation instructions, so follow the Hattersley installation and maintenance literature and normal wafer-valve practice: centre the valve using its centring holes, keep the disc slightly open while tightening flange bolts, and use flanges with a bore that clears the open disc. The lever has a notch plate for positioning, and the maker states that the valve may be used for flow regulation.
Where it is used
Wafer butterfly valves of this class are common in chilled water, hot water and general building services pipework. In the Gulf they appear in district cooling, HVAC plant rooms and utility lines, where an EPDM liner and aluminium bronze disc deal with treated water. For hydrocarbon or high-pressure process duty a different valve class is needed.
Specification checklist before ordering
To avoid a wrong valve, confirm five points on the pipe system: the nominal size from DN50 to DN600, the flange standard (BS EN 1092-2 PN10 or PN16, or ANSI Class 125 up to DN300), the operator (lever Fig. 950 or gearbox Fig. 950G), the fluid and its compatibility with the EPDM liner, and the operating temperature within the rated range of -10 to 130 C at 16 bar. The sheet lists a shell test of 24 bar and a seat test of 17.6 bar, which are useful when a customer asks for test details.
Handling, storage and documents
Butterfly valves should be stored with the disc slightly open so the liner is not compressed for long periods, kept dry and capped, and handled by the body, not by the lever or the gearbox. Keep the data sheet revision and the figure number with the delivery record. Gearboxes should be checked for free rotation on receipt.
Information needed for a quotation
Send the figure number, the size, the flange standard, the operator type, the quantity and the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, along with the fluid and temperature. If actuators or accessories are required, list them in the same request.
