Hattersley Fig. 980 ANSI Fully Lugged Butterfly Valve Class 150
Description
Fully lugged ductile iron butterfly valve built for ANSI flanges
The Hattersley Fig. 980 ANSI is a ductile iron, fully lugged butterfly valve for ANSI Class 125 and 150 flanges. It has an epoxy-coated body, an aluminium bronze disc and a phenolic-backed EPDM liner, with a trigger lever on the smaller sizes; valves DN200 (8 inch) and larger are supplied as standard with a fully enclosed gear operator. The data sheet states the valve generally conforms to BS EN 593 and may be used for flow regulation.
Fully lugged means the body has threaded lugs around the full circumference so that the valve can be bolted between flanges, and, with suitable bolting, used for end-of-line service. That statement is general engineering practice; the sheet itself says only that it is fully lugged and suitable for fitting between flanges to ANSI B16.1 Class 125 and 150.

- Fully lugged ductile iron body, epoxy coated
- Aluminium bronze disc
- EPDM liner, phenolic backed
- Trigger lever; fully enclosed gear operator on 8 inch and larger
- Suitable between ANSI B16.1 Class 125 and 150 flanges
- Can be used for flow regulation

Selection and ordering guide
Choose the Fig. 980 when the pipework is flanged to ANSI Class 125 or 150 and a fully lugged body is wanted. If the pipework is PN10 or PN16 to BS EN 1092-2, the semi-lugged Fig. 950 on its own page is the metric equivalent. The printed rating of 19.65 bar applies only up to 37.8 C and falls to 16.93 bar at 120 C, which is the full ANSI-style pressure-temperature behaviour shown on the sheet curve. The EPDM liner limits the fluid choice; oils and many hydrocarbons are unsuitable for EPDM, which is general knowledge.
Installation notes
Fit between flanges with the disc slightly open, check that the flange bore does not foul the disc, and tighten bolts in a cross pattern. A 24 inch valve weighs 337.3 kg so lifting equipment is needed. The sheet gives no further installation text; consult Hattersley literature for torque and flange-facing details.
Applications
ANSI-flanged butterfly valves are common in imported packaged equipment, chiller plant, cooling water and fire pump rooms across the Gulf, where American flange standards are widely used. The aluminium bronze disc and EPDM liner suit treated water duties; for seawater, confirm the material combination with the manufacturer.
Reading the 980 pressure and temperature figures
Two rating points are printed: 19.65 bar from -10 to 37.8 C, and 16.93 bar at 120 C. The first number is the cold working pressure at ambient conditions. The second point shows how much capacity is lost at typical hot water temperatures. The sheet also includes a curve of pressure against temperature up to about 140 C on the chart axis.
Test pressures of 29.5 bar for the shell and 21.6 bar for the seat are printed. Check the project requirement for shut-off differential pressure against the printed seat test, not only the body rating. The drawing of the geared version carries a 50:1 marking.
Specification checklist before ordering
Confirm the size, the flange standard (ANSI B16.1 Class 125 or 150), the pressure and temperature, which the sheet prints as 19.65 bar up to 37.8 C and 16.93 bar at 120 C, the fluid compatibility with the EPDM liner and the operator. Valves of 8 inch and larger come with a fully enclosed gear operator. Shell and seat test pressures are printed as 29.5 bar and 21.6 bar.
Handling and storage
Store the valve with the disc slightly open so the liner does not take a set, keep it dry and capped, and handle it by the body. Check that the flange bore clears the open disc before installation.
Information needed for a quotation
Send the figure number, size, flange class, operator type, quantity, delivery location in Oman or the GCC and the fluid and temperature.
Documents and supply information
The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with any project specification before a purchase is confirmed. Material grades, test pressures and dimensions are quoted exactly as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.

Ordering note: give the nominal size, the operator type (lever or gearbox) and the flange class of the mating pipework when requesting a quotation. Sizes from 2 inch to 24 inch are listed on the data sheet, and the heavier valves ship with their gear operator already fitted as standard.
