Weflo Fig. 2302 Wafer Butterfly Valve
Description
Overview
The Weflo Fig. 2302 is a concentric, resilient-seated wafer butterfly valve built for isolation duty in water, chilled water and general building services pipework. Weflo designs the Fig. 2302 to meet or exceed the requirements of EN 593, AS 4795.1 and API STD 609, with a vulcanized EPDM liner, a one-piece shaft that passes completely through the disc, and an ISO 5211 mounting flange for a lever, gear operator or actuator. The Weflo Fig. 2302 is rated at 16 bar (250 psi) and is offered from DN50 up to DN600, which covers the header, riser and plant-room sizes found in most chilled water and potable water installations.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Weflo Fig. 2302 to contractors, consultants and facility owners in Oman and the wider GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. For buyers searching for a valves supplier in Oman that can provide a WRAS approved butterfly valve, the Weflo Fig. 2302 datasheet carries the WRAS Approved Product mark and states certification to ANSI/NSF 61 and 372, giving specifiers documented evidence for drinking-water and HVAC projects alike.
Operating Principle
A concentric butterfly valve controls flow with a circular disc mounted on a shaft at the centre of the bore. A quarter turn of the shaft moves the disc from the fully open position, where it lies parallel to the flow, to the fully closed position, where its edge presses into the elastomer liner around the full circumference. Because the disc and shaft sit on the pipe centreline, sealing relies on interference between the disc edge and the resilient liner, which is why liner material and the quality of its bond to the body determine tightness and service life.
In the Weflo Fig. 2302 the EPDM liner is vulcanized, so it is bonded rather than loosely fitted, and the elastomer also isolates the ductile iron body from the medium. As general engineering guidance, a butterfly valve of this type is primarily an isolation valve: it should be operated fully open or fully closed, while flow regulation in HVAC circuits is normally handled by dedicated balancing or control valves. The compact wafer construction keeps pressure loss modest when the disc is open and allows a short face-to-face length in crowded plant rooms.
Engineering Design of the Weflo Fig. 2302
The body of the Weflo Fig. 2302 is ductile iron to EN 1563 EN-GJS-450-10 (ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12), with fusion bonded coating or liquid painting on the interior and exterior for corrosion protection. The disc can be specified in stainless steel to EN 10088 X5CrNi18-10 (ASTM A351 CF8), bronze to EN 1982 CuSn5Zn5Pb5 (ASTM B62 C83600) or ductile iron, so the wetted trim can be matched to chilled water, condenser water or potable water service. The shaft is stainless steel to EN 10088 X17CrNi16-2 (ASTM A276 Type 431), supported by brass shaft bushings, with an NBR seal ring and a PTFE seal bushing.
Face-to-face dimensions comply with EN 558 Series 20 and ASME B16.10, and the wafer body suits flanges to EN 1092 PN10/16, ASME B16.1 Class 125 and AS 2129 Table D/E. Sizes up to DN300 can be supplied with a lever handle or a gear operator, while DN350 and larger sizes are gear operated. The ISO 5211 top flange ranges from F07 on the smaller sizes to F16 on DN500 and DN600, which simplifies later conversion of the Weflo Fig. 2302 to electric or pneumatic actuation in a building management system.
Key Features
The main features of the Weflo Fig. 2302, as listed on the manufacturer datasheet, are summarised below.
- The Weflo Fig. 2302 is designed to meet or exceed the requirements of EN 593, AS 4795.1 and API STD 609 for resilient-seated butterfly valves.
- A vulcanized EPDM liner provides the seat and keeps the medium away from the ductile iron body.
- A one-piece shaft extends completely through the disc for a rigid, well-supported disc connection.
- The mounting flange follows ISO 5211, so levers, gearboxes and actuators can be fitted without adaptors in most cases.
- Face-to-face dimensions comply with EN 558 Series 20 and ASME B16.10 for easy replacement of existing wafer valves.
- The rated working pressure is 16 bar (250 psi), with a 25 bar (300 psi) version available as an option.
- The datasheet shows the WRAS Approved Product mark and certification to ANSI/NSF 61 and 372 for drinking water contact.
- Options include a grey cast iron body for DN300 and smaller at 16 bar, and a replaceable liner for DN50 to DN300.
Industrial Applications
In chilled water systems the Weflo Fig. 2302 is typically installed as an isolation valve at chiller and pump connections, on cooling coil branches, at air handling unit headers and on riser take-offs. District cooling plants, hospital complexes, shopping malls and hotel towers in Muscat and across the GCC use resilient-seated wafer butterfly valves of this type because they are light, short and quick to operate. On domestic and potable water networks, booster sets and storage tank outlets, the WRAS and NSF 61 marks on the datasheet help consultants confirm that the wetted materials are acceptable for drinking water.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Weflo Fig. 2302 for building services, water treatment and light industrial projects in Oman, including developments in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah, and supports contractors with selection of sizes, disc materials and operators. The Weflo Fig. 2302 is often specified alongside resilient-seated designs such as the Keystone Figure 990/920 butterfly valve, downstream of pumps such as the Grundfos NB end-suction pump, and together with pressure independent control valves such as the Danfoss AB-QM PICV on terminal unit circuits.

Selection and Installation Notes
The points below are general engineering guidance for wafer butterfly valves rather than Weflo-specific instructions. Wafer valves such as the Weflo Fig. 2302 are clamped between two pipe flanges by through-bolts, so the flange standard and bolt length must suit the valve width and the drilling of the mating flanges. Because the disc swings into the pipe bore when it opens, the internal diameter of adjacent fittings, strainers and check valves should be checked to make sure the disc does not strike them. Flange gaskets are usually not required where the resilient liner forms the flange face, but the project specification and manufacturer installation instructions should always be followed.
When choosing between the Weflo Fig. 2302 wafer design and a lug-type butterfly valve, consider whether the downstream pipework will ever need to be removed while the upstream side remains under pressure; that dead-end duty is normally the reason to select a lugged body instead of a wafer body. For HVAC projects where the valve will later be motorised, specify the ISO 5211 flange size and the required actuator torque early so that the operator and actuator can be supplied together.
