Badger Meter Recordall Turbo Series Water Meter

Description

Overview

The Badger Meter Recordall Turbo series is a family of turbine water meters for cold water in commercial and industrial service where flows are consistently medium to high. Models 160, 200, 450, 1000, 2000, 3500, 5500 and 6200 cover line sizes from 1-1/2 inch to 12 inch. The meters meet or exceed AWWA Standard C701 Class II, use a lead-free bronze alloy housing for sizes up to 10 inch and cast iron for the 12 inch size, and carry NSF/ANSI/CAN Standards 61 and 372 certification.

Hotels, apartment towers, irrigation centers and manufacturing plants across Oman need accurate bulk-water measurement for billing, leak detection and process accounting. Seven Star LLC supplies the Badger Meter Recordall Turbo on request with engineering support in Muscat, and we can also quote the matching registers, encoders and flanges so a metering point can be specified completely from one source.

Turbine Operating Principle

Water entering the Badger Meter Recordall Turbo passes through inlet straightening vanes and strikes a multi-vaned rotor. The rotor turns at a speed proportional to flow, and a gear train made up of a worm gear at the rotor shaft and a second gear set at the magnet carrier transmits the motion to a direct magnetic drive. The magnet couples through the housing to a permanently sealed register or encoder, so the measuring element never contacts the registration mechanism.

The rotor uses a direct-coupled floating design that reduces bearing friction and wear, with lubricated thermoplastic radial bearings, sapphire thrust jewels and passivated 316 stainless steel pivots. Straightening vanes with nose cones at the inlet and outlet minimize swirl from upstream and downstream piping, which supports registration accuracy at low, normal and maximum continuous flow rates while keeping pressure loss low.

Engineering Design of the Badger Meter Recordall Turbo

Each meter consists of a housing, an interchangeable unitized measuring element and a permanently sealed direct reading register or encoder. The register and measuring element can be removed without taking the housing out of the line, and certain parts are interchangeable between models to reduce spare-parts inventory. A stainless steel integral strainer with a removable cover plate is standard on the 1-1/2 inch meter and optional on 2 to 4 inch meters, while external strainers are available for sizes from 2 inch to 12 inch.

The standard register has a six-odometer totalization display, a 360 degree test circle with a center sweep hand and a flow finder for leak detection. Optional encoders connect the Badger Meter Recordall Turbo to AMR and AMI reading systems, and tamper protection is offered through a seal wire screw, a TORX tamper-resistant screw or a proprietary keyed seal screw. Meters are designed for one-way flow, and companion flanges in cast iron or bronze are available as options.

Key Features

The Badger Meter Recordall Turbo series offers these practical benefits:

  • Direct-coupled turbine with a floating-rotor design that reduces bearing friction and associated wear.
  • Low pressure loss for improved system efficiency, from 0.8 psi at maximum continuous flow on the 12 inch size to 7.3 psi on the 4 inch size.
  • Typical operating range of 100 percent plus or minus 1.5 percent, with registration of at least 95 percent at typical low flow.
  • Permanently sealed, tamper-resistant register or encoder with options for AMR and AMI reading systems.
  • Lead-free bronze alloy construction for sizes 1-1/2 to 10 inch, compliant with the lead-free provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
  • Integral stainless steel strainer on the 1-1/2 inch size to protect the measuring element from debris.
  • Serviceable measuring element and register that can be replaced without removing the housing.
  • Maximum operating pressure of 150 psi (10 bar) and maximum temperature of 120 °F (49 °C).

Industrial Applications

The Badger Meter Recordall Turbo is designed for cold water commercial and industrial applications, including hotels, apartment buildings, irrigation centers and manufacturing and processing plants. In the Sultanate of Oman that translates into hospitality complexes in Muscat and Salalah, residential compounds, district cooling make-up lines, industrial estates in Sohar and Rusayl and landscaping systems that draw substantial volumes at consistent flow rates.

Utilities and facility managers often combine bulk turbine meters with electronic flow instruments for process lines and verification. Seven Star LLC supplies the Badger Meter Recordall Turbo together with complementary instruments such as the Badger Meter M2000 electromagnetic flow meter, the Dynasonics TFX-5000 fixed clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter and the Endress+Hauser Promag W 10 electromagnetic flowmeter, giving engineers a consistent source for water-measurement projects.

About brand
Water utilities know Badger Meter first for its Recordall mechanical meters, and process engineers for its ModMAG electromagnetic flow meters. The Milwaukee company has made flow measurement equipment since 1905. Seven Star LLC lists Badger Meter Recordall Compound and Turbo Series water meters and the ModMAG M2000, and supplies Badger Meter flow meters to utilities, contractors and plants in Oman and the GCC.

Badger Meter product families on this page

Recordall Turbo Series meters are turbine meters for lines that run at medium to high flow. Recordall Compound Series meters combine a turbine element with a small positive displacement element, so the meter keeps registering when demand drops to a trickle. The ModMAG M2000 is an electromagnetic meter with no moving parts in the flow, for water, wastewater and other conductive liquids above about 5 µS/cm, with outputs such as Modbus RTU, HART, Profibus DP, BACnet and EtherNet/IP.

Ordering Badger Meter flow meters: what we need

State the line size, flow range, liquid and its temperature and pressure. For Recordall meters add the register type and units (gallons, cubic feet or cubic meters) and the end connections. For the ModMAG M2000 add liner and electrode material, flange standard, integral or remote amplifier, supply voltage and the communication protocol.
