Sensus iPERL+ Smart Water Meter
Description
The Sensus iPERL+ is a smart water meter with electromagnetic flow measurement and no moving parts, in the North American residential size range of 5/8 inch to 1 inch. The data sheet describes patented remanent magnetic technology that registers flow from as low as 0.03 gpm (0.007 m3/h), keeps its accuracy over a 20-year lifetime and carries smart alarms for leaks, tampering and reverse flow. This version is specified in US units and to US standards, so it is the data sheet to use for projects that follow AWWA and NSF requirements rather than the European MID.

Construction, alarms and metering data
The flow tube is composite polymer inside a thermal polymer shell with an integrated electronic register, so the register cannot be removed to obtain free water; magnetic tamper and low field alarms respond to attempts to disturb the magnetic field, and a meter communication alarm indicates a possible cut cable. The sealed nine-digit register eliminates dirt and moisture contamination in pit settings and shows AMI and AMR digits, flow direction, units and empty pipe detection, with programmable units and user-configurable data logging. The meter is compatible with current Sensus AMI and AMR systems, including FlexNet, and logs up to 120 days of hourly consumption data.
Choosing the version
Potable and reclaim versions are listed, and the 3/4 inch and 1 inch sizes also come as residential fire service meters under UL 327b, with separate test flow limits and 175 psi maximum pressure. Lengths are given in inches with spud ends and NPSM threads, so check thread standards against the pipework. Flow ranges and accuracy bands (plus or minus 3 percent at low flow, plus or minus 1.5 percent in the normal range) are given per size. Water temperature is limited to 80 degF (26.7 degC), which is below typical hot-water use, and the data sheet is the North American edition, so a GCC utility that specifies MID, ISO 4064 or OIML R49 should ask Sensus for the international meter instead.
Documents and quotation
The linked file is the four-page Sensus iPERL+ data sheet WDS-10066-03, hosted by Xylem for the Sensus brand. Before ordering confirm the size, thread, potable or reclaim version, fire service listing, register units (gallons or cubic metres) and the AMI or AMR system, and note that the data sheet gives no MID or OIML approvals. About brand
Sensus is a water and thermal energy metering manufacturer whose Sensus International business is based in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany. Its range runs from static electromagnetic and ultrasonic meters such as iPERL and Cordonel to volumetric, multijet, turbine and compound meters, with SensusRF radio for fixed-network and walk-by or drive-by reading. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Sensus meters that are backed by the manufacturer data sheets.\n\n
Sensus meter technologies
\n\nSensus International states that it is one of the few global manufacturers offering both leading static metering technologies, electromagnetic and ultrasonic, alongside traditional mechanical meters. Piston meters such as the 620 and 640, the 420 multijet and the DomoJet single jet cover residential and sub-metering duty, while the WP-Dynamic turbine, the WPV-MS compound meter and the MeiStream Plus bulk meter serve larger flows.\n\n
What we need to quote a Sensus meter
\n\nSend the DN, connection or flange drilling, lay length, ratio, temperature class, the approvals your utility requires (MID, OIML R49, ISO 4064 or potable water approvals) and the radio protocol. Note that the North American iPERL+ is documented in US units and standards, separately from the international range.
