Brand:

Kamstrup flowIQ 3200 Ultrasonic District Water Meter DN32-DN100

Description

A smart ultrasonic meter for district and bulk water connections

The Kamstrup flowIQ 3200 is a series of integrated, hermetically sealed ultrasonic water meters with built-in radio communication, suited to multi-unit apartment blocks, commercial premises, pump stations and well heads. All sizes combine a composite housing with a metal body, and the meter is fully protected against internal and external water ingress, which makes it suitable for submerged pit installations. The datasheet names Wireless M-Bus C1 and T1, linkIQ and a wired M-Bus option, an external pit antenna option, intelligent info codes, and water and ambient temperature measurement. Battery life can be as high as 20 years.

Meter types and pressure loss

The datasheet lists sixteen meter types by letter code; the main ones are summarised below. Pressure loss at Q3 stays between 0.03 and 0.30 bar, and the maximum cut-off is an indicative value that depends on the hydraulic conditions. Accuracy is guaranteed only between Q1 and Q4, even though measurement occurs from the minimum to the maximum cut-off.

Meter type Q3 (m³/h) Q1 (l/h) Dynamic range Connection Pressure loss at Q3 (bar)
3M 6.3 40 160 1½” (DN32) 0.07
3N 10 40 250 1½” (DN32) 0.17

AF / AB 100 400 250 DN100 0.08

Installation and related meters

The meter is IP68 and rated for pit installation, but direct prolonged sunlight must be avoided and the ambient range of 5 to 55 °C applies. Kamstrup also publishes a separate Reclaimed Water data sheet for flowIQ 2200 and 3200, which carries a note that reclaimed water is not suited for drinking. For smaller household connections see the Kamstrup flowIQ 2200 and for the largest bulk sizes the Kamstrup flowIQ 4200. The category page Flowmeters lists more options.

How the Kamstrup flowIQ 3200 works

An ultrasonic water meter has no moving parts. Sound pulses travel through the water in the flow direction and against it, and the difference in the transit time gives the flow velocity and so the volume. The flowIQ 3200 is a hermetically sealed meter with a composite housing and a metal body, so it is protected against water ingress inside and outside. A lithium battery runs the electronics and the built-in radio, and the battery life can be as long as 20 years. The meter also measures the water temperature and the ambient temperature.

Where the flowIQ 3200 is used

  • District and bulk water connections.
  • Multi-unit apartment blocks.
  • Commercial premises.
  • Pump stations and well heads.
  • Submerged pit installations.

  • Integrated acoustic leakage detection on the 1.5 in and 2 in threaded sizes.
  • Wetted parts of glass-fibre PPS and stainless steel.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Choose the size from the flow of the connection and not from the pipe diameter alone, and check the pressure loss at Q3, which stays between 0.03 and 0.30 bar. Install the meter in the correct flow direction with the straight lengths that the datasheet requires, and protect it from freezing, because frozen water damages the meter. For a pit, use the external antenna if the radio signal is weak. Record the serial number and the settings at commissioning, and read the info codes for faults.

Requesting a quotation for the Kamstrup flowIQ 3200

Send the nominal flow, the connection type and the communication you need. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Approvals and accuracy

The meter is covered by MID approval and OIML R 49 class 2, and accuracy is guaranteed between Q1 and Q4.

Drinking water approvals

The datasheet lists KIWA, ACS and KTW-BWGL approvals, except for DN100.

Info codes

The meter reports intelligent info codes, which help the utility find leaks and problems at the site.

Meter records

Record the serial number, the size and the site address of each meter.

Choosing the meter size

Select the nominal flow Q3 from the normal and the peak flow of the connection, so that the meter works inside its measuring range most of the time. A meter that is far too large will measure the small night flows with less certainty.

Reading the meter

The radio options let the utility read the meter from the road or by a fixed network, and the wired interface gives a pulse output or a link to a gateway where radio is not wanted.

Documents and quotation

The Kamstrup flowIQ 3200 data sheet from July 2025 is attached. For a quotation please give Q3, connection (thread or flange size), dynamic range, cold or warm water, communication package, antenna option and destination country, and we will check the type number against the manufacturer documentation.

About brand

Ultrasonic measurement with no moving parts is the idea behind the flowIQ water meters and ultrasonic energy meters of Kamstrup. The Danish company, founded in 1946 in Skanderborg, makes meters for water, heat and cooling that are read remotely. Seven Star LLC lists the Kamstrup flowIQ water meters and the MULTICAL 403 energy meter, and supplies Kamstrup meters to utilities, district cooling operators and building owners in Oman and the GCC.

Kamstrup meter families on this page

The flowIQ 2200 is an ultrasonic smart water meter for residential, multi-unit and commercial connections. The flowIQ 4200 is the bulk water meter, made in five sizes from DN125 to DN300. The MULTICAL 403 is an ultrasonic thermal energy meter that can be supplied as a heat meter, a cooling meter or a combined heat and cooling meter, with a matched pair of temperature sensors and communication modules.

Ordering Kamstrup meters: what we need

Send the type number from the meter front if you are matching installed units. Otherwise give nominal flow and pipe size, connection type and meter length, heat or cooling service, where the flow sensor sits (supply or return pipe), the temperature sensor type and cable length, and the communication you need, for example wired M-Bus or a radio option.
