Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8mm Proximity Probe – 330101-00-27-10-02-05
Description
Overview: The Sensing Element of a Proven Vibration Monitoring Standard
The Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8mm Proximity Probe, part number 330101-00-27-10-02-05, is the sensing component of the 3300 XL Proximity Transducer System, an industry-standard platform for continuous vibration and position monitoring on fluid-film bearing machines such as turbines, compressors, and generators. Working together with a matching 3300 XL extension cable and Proximitor sensor, this 8mm probe delivers an output voltage directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and the observed conductive shaft surface, supporting both static (position) and dynamic (vibration) measurement.
As a trusted supplier of Bently Nevada machinery protection instrumentation, Seven Star LLC sources and supplies the 3300 XL 8mm proximity probe to refineries, gas processing plants, and power generation facilities across Oman and the wider GCC. Because probe, cable, and Proximitor sensor length and configuration must be matched for correct system calibration, Seven Star LLC helps engineering teams confirm the correct part number combination for their existing or new machinery protection system.
Measurement Principle
The 3300 XL probe operates on the eddy current principle: a radio-frequency signal generated by the Proximitor sensor is transmitted down the probe’s coaxial cable to a coil in the probe tip, creating a high-frequency electromagnetic field. When a conductive target – typically the machine shaft – enters this field, eddy currents are induced in the target surface, which in turn draw energy from the probe’s field in proportion to the gap distance between the probe tip and the target. The Proximitor sensor demodulates this energy loss into a DC output voltage that varies linearly with gap distance across the probe’s rated linear range.
This non-contact measurement approach allows continuous monitoring of both the static radial position of a rotating shaft within its bearing clearance and the dynamic vibration displacement of that shaft, without any physical wear on the sensing element itself. All 3300 Proximity Transducer Systems are engineered for complete interchangeability of probe, extension cable, and Proximitor sensor within a matched length combination, eliminating the need for individual component matching or bench calibration when replacing a probe in the field.
Engineering Design of the 3300 XL Probe
The 330101 series probe features a patented TipLoc molding method that provides a more robust bond between the probe tip and probe body compared to earlier probe designs, and a patented CableLoc cable termination design delivering 330 N (75 lbf) of pull strength to securely retain the probe cable and tip under field handling and vibration. The probe tip is molded from polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), while the probe case is constructed from AISI 303 or 304 stainless steel, giving the probe the chemical and thermal resistance needed for demanding process environments.
Rated for an operating and storage temperature range of -52°C to +177°C (-62°F to +350°F), the probe delivers a 2 mm (80 mil) linear range from approximately 0.25 mm to 2.3 mm (10 to 90 mils) from the target, with a recommended radial vibration gap setting of -9 Vdc (approximately 1.27 mm / 50 mils). The -05 suffix on this part number indicates CSA, ATEX, and IECEx hazardous-area approvals, extending the probe’s application to classified areas in refineries and offshore facilities.

330101-00-27-10-02-05 Part Number Breakdown
Base number 330101 identifies a 3300 XL 8 mm probe with 3/8-24 UNF thread and no armor; the armored twin is 330102 and the M10 × 1 versions are 330103 and 330104. The five option fields follow the pattern AA-BB-CC-DD-EE. A = 00 means zero unthreaded length, so the case is threaded along its whole body. B = 27 is an overall case length of 2.7 in, chosen in 0.1 in steps between 0.8 and 9.6 in. C = 10 is a total length of 1.0 metre (3.3 ft) from probe tip to connector.
D = 02 specifies the miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector on standard cable without a factory-fitted connector protector; 01 adds the protector, while 11 and 12 are the same two choices on FluidLoc cable, which blocks oil migration through the cable interior. E = 05 is the CSA, ATEX and IECEx approval option, the alternative being 00 for non-approved use. Other total lengths in the same family are 05, 15, 20, 30, 50 and 90 (0.5, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 9.0 metres). One metre leads carry a +30%, -0% length tolerance.
System Length Matching and Compatible Components
A 1.0 metre probe can be used in three ways. Connected straight to a 1 metre 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor (330180-10 panel mount, -11 DIN mount or -12 without mounting hardware) it forms a complete 1 metre system with no extension cable. For 5 or 9 metre systems the rule is that probe length plus 330130 extension cable length must equal the sensor length, which points to the 330130-040 (4.0 metre) cable with a 330180-50, -51 or -52 sensor, or 330130-080 (8.0 metre) with a 330180-90, -91 or -92 sensor.
Extension cable 330130 is offered as standard, armored, standard with connector protector and armored with protector, plus the FluidLoc equivalents, each with approval option 00 or 05. Standard cable weighs 34 g/m and has a typical capacitance of 69.9 pF/m. Where the probe to cable joint will see turbine oil, fit connector protectors (kit 40113-02 or pack 40180-02) rather than the silicone tape supplied with each cable. Mixing in older non-XL 3300 components is permitted but limits performance to the non-XL specification.
Common 330101 Part Numbers Decoded
Buyers often search for a complete 330101 code taken from the probe label. Every 330101 code follows the same AA-BB-CC-DD-EE structure described above, so the table below decodes the codes we are most often asked about. Unthreaded and case lengths are in 0.1 inch steps, and the total length includes the integral cable up to the connector.

The -CN suffix is not one of the approval options (00 and 05) listed in Bently Nevada datasheet 141194; it is a country-specific approval variant, so it should be matched to the nameplate of the installed probe before ordering. When a probe is replaced, keep the same total length so the system still matches its 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor and extension cable. For M10 × 1 threaded machines, see the 330103 version. Send the full code from the label and the quantity, and we will quote the exact match or confirm the closest equivalent.
More 330101 Codes Decoded

Some searched codes need a closer look. In 330101-17-28-10-02-BR the first four fields read as 1.7 in unthreaded length, 2.8 in case length, 1.0 m total length and ClickLoc connector on standard cable; -BR is not one of the datasheet approval options (00 and 05), so treat it like -CN as a country-specific variant and check the nameplate. 330101-20-45-10-02-01 ends in 01, which is also not a listed approval option. 330101-0-27-10-02-05 is the same probe as 330101-00-27-10-02-05 written with a single zero. Codes such as 330101-05-30-02-03 or 330101-05-30-05-02-03 have a field missing or added; 05-30 is the fixed geometry of the 330106 M10 reverse mount probe (330106-05-30-CC-DD-EE), so the label should be checked. The armored 3/8-24 version 330102 uses the same fields: 330102-20-47-10-02-CN is 2.0 in unthreaded, 4.7 in case, 1.0 m, and 330102-00-96-05-02-05 is a fully threaded 9.6 in case (the maximum), 0.5 m, with CSA, ATEX and IECEx approval. The metric armored 330104 uses 10 mm steps, so 330104-10-19-10-02-00 is 100 mm unthreaded, 190 mm case, 1.0 m. Send a clear photo of the probe label and we will confirm the part number before quoting.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.
Where Bently Nevada systems are used
In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.
Ordering and replacement: what we need
For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.

FAQ
Questions about the Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8mm Proximity Probe
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01What measurement principle does this probe use?
The probe uses the eddy current principle, where a radio-frequency field from the Proximitor sensor loses energy proportional to the gap distance to a conductive target, producing an output voltage linear with position.
02Can this probe be swapped in without recalibrating the system?
Yes, 3300 Proximity Transducer Systems are designed for complete interchangeability of probe, extension cable, and Proximitor sensor within a matched length combination, without bench calibration.
03What does the -05 suffix on this part number indicate?
The -05 suffix indicates CSA, ATEX, and IECEx hazardous-area approvals for the probe.
04What is the linear measurement range of this probe?
The probe has a 2 mm (80 mil) linear range from approximately 0.25 mm to 2.3 mm (10 to 90 mils) from the target surface.
05Does Seven Star LLC supply this part across the GCC?
Yes, Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Bently Nevada 3300 XL proximity probes to refinery, power generation, and gas processing customers across Oman and the wider GCC region.
