Tektronix TBS2104 100 MHz 4-Channel Digital Storage Oscilloscope
Description
TBS2104 is the 100 MHz, four-channel member of the Tektronix TBS2000 Series of digital storage oscilloscopes, with 1 GS/s sampling, 20 million points of record length and a 9-inch WVGA display.
A four-channel bench scope for maintenance and training
The graticule is 10 vertical by 15 horizontal divisions, which the datasheet says shows 50 percent more signal than a conventional 8 by 10 grid. Four inputs let you watch a control signal, gate drive, sensor output and supply rail together, with cursor readouts drawn on the waveform and up to six of 32 automated measurements on screen.
Record length is selectable from 2000 samples to 20 million points with Zoom to pan through it. Edge, pulse width and runt triggers are fitted and peak detect captures glitches as narrow as 3.5 ns.
Key features from the datasheet
- TekVPI probe interface for active, differential and current probes with automatic scaling.
- FFT with Rectangular, Hamming, Hanning and Blackman-Harris windows.
- LXI Core 2011 Ethernet web page, USBTMC, and optional USB Wi-Fi.
- Courseware function and TekSmartLab compatibility for teaching labs.
- Five-year warranty on parts and labour, probes excluded.

Choosing the model and options
Models differ only in bandwidth and channel count; the 4-channel body weighs 4.17 kg against 2.62 kg for two channels. Options printed include the USB Wi-Fi dongle, P2221 200 MHz probes in place of the standard set, power plug options A0 to A99, language overlays L0 to L10 and a calibration data report (D1). Confirm the plug option for your socket when ordering.
Set-up notes
One TPP0100 100 MHz 10x passive probe per channel and a traceable calibration certificate are supplied. Compensate probes at the 5 V, 1 kHz connector, leave 50 mm clearance at the left and rear, and keep inputs within 300 V RMS; use a rated high-voltage probe above that. The datasheet notes Wi-Fi adapters are available in some countries only.
Typical uses in Gulf workshops and colleges
A 100 MHz four-channel scope suits instrument and electrical workshops servicing drives, PLC I/O, transmitters and switch-mode supplies, and technical-college labs. It is a bench instrument with a 0 to +50 °C range; the datasheet gives no ingress rating or hazardous-area approval.
Accessories listed by Tektronix
Recommended: P5100A 2.5 kV high-voltage probe, TDP0500 and THDP0200 differential probes, TCP0030A current probe, ACD4000B carry case, TEK-USB-488 GPIB adapter. See the Portable Test and Measurement category.
Selection and installation notes
An oscilloscope is selected from the bandwidth, the sample rate, the number of channels and the record length that the signals need. Choose probes with the right attenuation and bandwidth, compensate the probe before use, connect the ground clip carefully and stay within the voltage ratings of the instrument and the probes. Keep the calibration current.
