Tektronix Keithley 2460 SourceMeter SMU 100 V 7 A 100 W
Description
2460 is the Keithley high-current SourceMeter source measure unit (SMU) from Tektronix: a four-quadrant source and sink covering up to 105 V and 7 A (DC or pulse) at 100 W maximum, with 6.5-digit measurement and a 5 in. capacitive touchscreen.
One instrument for source, load and meter
The datasheet describes the 2460 as combining a precision power supply with voltage and current readback, a true current source, a digital multimeter, a precision electronic load and a trigger controller. Because it sinks as well as sources, it can charge and discharge a cell, load a DC-DC converter, or sweep the I-V curve of an LED, diode, solar cell or power MOSFET with one set of leads.
Four Quickset modes (source and measure combinations) shorten set-up, and icon menus with context help are said to cut the steps needed to configure a test by as much as 50 percent. Programming is by SCPI or by TSP Lua scripts executed on the instrument.
Key features as printed in the datasheet
- Basic measurement accuracy 0.012 % at 6.5 digits.
- Voltage ranges 200 mV to 100 V; current ranges 1 µA to 7 A.
- Front banana jacks and rear mass-termination screw connections.
- Interlock input, over-voltage protection and over-temperature standby.
- Front USB memory port; TSP-Link expansion for multi-unit systems.

Ordering and extras
The order code 2460 covers the 100 V, 7 A, 100 W instrument. Supplied with it: 2460-KIT screw connector, CS-1616-3 interlock connector, a TSP-Link/Ethernet cable, a USB cable, a clip-on safety test lead set and a power cord. Extended warranty plans (3 or 5 years) and KeithleyCare calibration plans are sold as services. Note that the guaranteed accuracy figures assume the 2460-KIT screw terminal accessory is used.
Set-up and safety notes
Allow one hour of warm-up and keep the unit indoors between 0 and 50 °C; it is rated for non-residential indoor use. Wire the safety interlock when working above the voltages your lab considers hazardous, and use four-wire sensing for low-resistance or high-current work. Over-voltage protection is off by default, so set it before connecting a sensitive device under test. The datasheet states all specifications are guaranteed with the output on.
Where an SMU earns its place in the Gulf
Battery and cell testing, LED and solar-panel characterisation, and SiC or GaN power-device checks are the uses the datasheet cites. For Gulf buyers this typically means university and college labs, solar-inverter service benches and electronics repair houses. It is an indoor bench instrument with no ingress or hazardous-area rating, so protect it from dust and keep it in an air-conditioned room.
Probes, racks and software
Keithley lists 5805 Kelvin spring probes, 5808 single-pin Kelvin probes, 2460-BAN cable, 7007-1 GPIB cable, 4299-8 and 4299-9 rack kits, and I-V Tracer, KickStart and ACS Basic software. A 6.5-digit companion such as the DMM6500 shares the TSP language. See the Portable Test and Measurement category.
Selection and installation notes
Test and measurement instruments are selected from the accuracy, the range and the interfaces the work needs. Allow the warm-up time, use leads and probes rated for the voltage and category of the circuit, keep the inputs inside the stated limits and keep the calibration current according to your quality system. Record the settings used for any test that must be repeated later.
