Siglent SPS5081X 80 V 15 A 360 W Programmable DC Power Supply

SPS5081X is a single-channel Siglent programmable switching DC power supply rated 80 V, 15 A and 360 W, with 1 mV / 1 mA setting and readback resolution, CV or CC priority modes, a 50-step list function, a 2.4 inch OLED display and standard USB and LAN interfaces.

A compact, half-width programmable supply with constant-power output

The SPS5081X belongs to the SPS5000X family of sixteen models, with voltages from 40 V to 160 V and power up to 1080 W. Its constant-power characteristic switches the voltage and current range automatically so that 360 W is available as 80 V at 4.5 A or 24 V at 15 A, giving a wider useful operating area than a conventional rectangular supply.

Siglent gives the load transient recovery time as 1 ms for a 50 to 100 percent load change. CV and CC priority modes limit inrush current and overshoot when the output is switched on, which is useful for LED strings and capacitive loads. Adjustable voltage and current slew rates and a built-in output discharge circuit control how the output rises and falls.

The ordering table lists 40 V, 50 V, 80 V and 160 V models in single, dual and three-channel versions. At 80 V the family offers SPS5081X (15 A, 360 W), SPS5082X (30 A, 720 W), SPS5083X (45 A, 1080 W), SPS5084X (two channels of 15 A) and SPS5085X (three channels of 15 A). The SPS5081X is the smallest single-channel 80 V choice. Standard accessories are a USB cable, quick start guide, calibration certificate, power cord and output guard. Optional items are the SPS5000X-SEC cable, SPS5000X-PAC parallel cable and SPS5000X-RMK rack kit, and the USB-GPIB module.

Connection and operation

Connect the load to the rear terminals, or to the front port within its 10 A limit, and use remote sense wiring when lead drop matters (0.6 V compensation). Set OVP and OCP before connecting a delicate load, and choose CC priority to limit start-up inrush. Enable the internal discharge circuit if you need the output to fall quickly, because the no-load fall time is 500 ms. The supply is fan cooled, so keep the vents clear in ambient temperatures up to 50 °C.

Where an 80 V programmable supply fits

Siglent names commercial industrial, education, energy and power generation, general laboratory testing, LED lighting and automotive electronics as target markets. In practice the 80 V range suits motor and driver testing, LED driver burn-in, battery and charger development and power-module evaluation. For currents above 15 A, the datasheet describes parallel operation of up to three units. The datasheet does not state any explosive-atmosphere rating.

Selection and installation notes

Test and measurement instruments are selected from the accuracy, the range and the interfaces the work needs. Allow the warm-up time, use leads and probes rated for the voltage and category of the circuit, keep the inputs inside the stated limits and keep the calibration current according to your quality system. Record the settings used for any test that must be repeated later.
