Description
A quiet single-channel linear supply with two output ranges
The Rigol DP811 is the single-output member of the DP800 programmable linear power-supply family. One channel covers two ranges: 0 to 20 V at up to 10 A, or 0 to 40 V at up to 5 A, with a total power of up to 200 W. A linear design gives output ripple and noise below 350 uVrms / 3 mVpp, which suits analog, RF and sensor circuits that switch-mode supplies can upset.
Typical jobs include powering transmitters and 4-20 mA test setups, charging or cycling small battery packs, and burn-in of boards on a production bench. Companion instruments are listed under Portable Test & Measurement.

DP811 or DP811A, and other DP800 models
The datasheet lists A and non-A versions of each DP800 model. On the DP811A the recorder, analyzer, monitor, trigger, LAN, RS232 and Digital I/O functions are standard; on the DP811 they are options (INTERFACE-DP800, DIGITALIO-DP800, AFK-DP800), as is the high-resolution setting (HIRES-DP800). If you need one channel at 8 V/20 A instead, the DP813 covers that range.
Connection and use notes
Use the rear output terminals and the sense inputs where remote sensing is needed to cancel lead drop. A short-circuit device is listed among the standard accessories. Guaranteed specifications apply after the instrument has been running for 30 minutes at 0 to 40 degC; calibration data in the datasheet is taken after a one-hour warm-up at 25 degC.
Uses in regional industry
Bench supply for instrument and analyzer repair, transmitter and sensor loop testing for process plants, battery and charger development, and university labs. The datasheet specifies 0 to 40 degC operation, so in Gulf summers it belongs in an air-conditioned room.

RIGOL Technologies is a Chinese maker of electronic test and measurement instruments, founded in 1998 when three university students set up the RIGOL studio in Beijing. Its first product, a virtual oscilloscope, followed in 1999.
