Siglent SDG2042X 40 MHz 2-Channel Arbitrary Waveform Generator
Description
SDG2042X is the 40 MHz, dual-channel member of the Siglent SDG2000X series of function and arbitrary waveform generators, with a 1.2 GSa/s, 16-bit sampling system, up to 20 Vpp output amplitude and a 4.3 inch touchscreen.
Low-jitter pulses and true point-by-point arbitrary waves
Conventional DDS generators can show one-clock jitter when the sample clock is not an integer multiple of the output frequency. Siglent addresses this with two techniques named in the datasheet. EasyPulse produces square and pulse waveforms with jitter of 150 ps rms (cycle to cycle) and lets pulse width be set from 16.3 ns in 100 ps steps, with rise and fall times from 8.4 ns to 22.4 s.
TrueArb generates arbitrary waveforms point by point, never skipping a point, for waveforms of 8 points to 8 Mpts at sample rates from 1 µSa/s to 75 MSa/s. The generator ships with 196 built-in arbitrary waveforms and a frequency counter that measures 0.1 Hz to 200 MHz.
Key features as printed in the datasheet
- Both channels guarantee 20 Vpp amplitude at 20 MHz and below (10 Vpp above 20 MHz) into a high-impedance load.
- Modulation: AM, DSB-AM, FM, PM, FSK, ASK, PSK and PWM, with internal or external source.
- Linear and logarithmic sweep; N-cycle and gated burst; harmonic function up to the tenth order.
- Standard USB host, USB device (USBTMC) and LAN (VXI-11); GPIB through a USB-GPIB adapter.
- EasyWaveX arbitrary waveform editing software.

Choosing a model and accessories
The three order codes differ only in maximum bandwidth: SDG2042X 40 MHz, SDG2082X 80 MHz, SDG2122X 120 MHz. Standard configuration is a quick start, power cord, USB cable, calibration certificate and a BNC coaxial cable. Optional items are the USB-GPIB adapter, a 20 dB attenuator and the SPA1010 10 W power amplifier. Specifications apply only inside the calibration period and after 30 minutes of operation at 18 to 28 °C.
Operating notes
Output amplitude is specified into a high-impedance load; divide by two for a 50 Ω load, as the datasheet notes. Lock several instruments to one 10 MHz reference using the rear reference input and output. The protection rating is IP20, which means indoor use only, with no dust or water resistance. Calibrate every year as per the datasheet interval.
Use in repair, training and production test
A dual-channel generator can inject sensor-like signals into amplifiers, PLC analog inputs and data acquisition front ends, simulate quadrature encoders with the two channels, or provide clock and pulse sources for digital debugging. At 40 MHz it covers audio, instrumentation and most control-system test needs in college labs and service benches. The frequency counter lets it double as a quick frequency check.
Selection and installation notes
Test and measurement instruments are selected from the accuracy, the range and the interfaces the work needs. Allow the warm-up time, use leads and probes rated for the voltage and category of the circuit, keep the inputs inside the stated limits and keep the calibration current according to your quality system. Record the settings used for any test that must be repeated later.
Information needed for a quotation
Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.
