Brand:

Schischek ExMax-S-F1 Fast Spring-Return Ex Rotary Actuator

Description

One-second fail-safe for safety dampers

The Schischek ExMax-S-F1 is the fast fail-safe version of the size S ExMax. Where the standard spring return takes 3 to 10 s, the F1 closes the damper in about 1 s per 90 degrees after the supply is cut or line 3 is opened, with 6 Nm (type 8-F1) or 12 Nm (type 15-F1) of spring torque. It is on-off controlled and suits safety and shut-off dampers that must move to the safe position almost immediately.

Fast spring return limits

A one second spring return puts mechanical load on the damper, so the datasheet requires a minimum external load and warns that low temperatures change the return time. The working range starts at -20 degrees C, narrower than the -40 degrees C of the slower spring return types. Keep this in mind for cold climate or outdoor intakes.

What to confirm before ordering

Name the exact suffix (F1, SF1 or BF1), the motor torque, the damper’s required closing time, the load, and the supply voltage. The BF1 version is used with an ExPro-TT temperature trigger. A terminal box rated for the zone is needed for field wiring. The photograph here is the manufacturer’s family picture of a size S ExMax and not specific to the F1 type.

About brand

Schischek makes explosion-proof HVAC products, including damper and valve actuators, sensors and controllers, and is now a Rotork brand. Seven Star LLC lists the Schischek ExMax and RedMax rotary actuators on this page and supplies them from Muscat as an independent supplier, with each type code checked against the manufacturer's datasheet.

Schischek actuator families listed here

The ExMax line is ATEX tested for zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 and comes in a size S housing (5 to 30 Nm) and a size M housing (24 to 150 Nm). The RedMax line shares the size M housing but is tested for zone 2 and zone 22 locations. Versions on this page include 3-position and on-off drives, spring return actuators, the BF type with an Ex-i tripping circuit for fire damper temperature triggers, 4 to 20 mA and modulating Y types with feedback, and a multi-turn type. All run from a 24 to 240 VAC/DC supply unless the datasheet states 24 V only.

Ordering Schischek actuators: what we need

Send the complete type code including the suffix and coating option, the torque, the running time, the supply voltage and the zone and temperature class of the installation. Terminal boxes, brackets, weather shields and shaft adapters are listed in each datasheet as separate accessories, so name them in the request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast is the spring return of the ExMax-S-F1?
About 1 s per 90 degrees, according to the datasheet.
Which torque values does it offer?
Spring torque of about 6 Nm for the 8-F1 and about 12 Nm for the 15-F1.
What is the lowest working temperature?
-20 degrees C, at T6 up to +40 degrees C and at T5 up to +50 degrees C.
Which options exist?
SF1 adds two auxiliary switches, and BF1 adds the switches and an Ex-i tripping circuit for the ExPro-TT trigger.
Why is a minimum load specified?
Because of the very fast return, the datasheet requires an external load of at least 2 Nm or 5 Nm, depending on the type.
