Brand:

Schischek ExMax-S-CY 4-20 mA Ex Rotary Actuator, 24 V

Description

Current-signal positioning for hazardous HVAC

The Schischek ExMax-S-CY is the analogue-controlled version of the size S ExMax actuator. It takes a 4 to 20 mA setpoint, returns a 0 to 10 VDC position feedback, and runs from a 24 VAC/DC supply only. It suits modulating dampers and VAV boxes in hazardous areas where a plant controller gives a current signal. A CYF variant adds spring return with a running time of about 10 s per 90 degrees.

Using the analogue version

Before first operation the actuator must be put through its self-adjustment mode so that the end stops and rotation angle are learned gently. This also applies when an external mechanical limit restricts travel. The 24 V-only supply is the main difference from the 24 to 240 V multi-voltage 3-position and Y types, so confirm the plant supply before choosing it.

What to confirm before ordering

Give type code and suffix, torque, running time, spring return need, signal type and the supply voltage. Check that the controller output can drive a 4 to 20 mA input. For hazardous-area wiring include an Ex-e terminal box. This page uses the manufacturer’s family photograph of a size S ExMax, which is not specific to the CY version.

Documents and quotation

You can download the manufacturer’s datasheet PUB113-441 for the ExMax-S-CY from this page. We supply from Muscat as an independent company. For a quotation, give us the nameplate type code, voltage and number of units; price and availability follow on request. Other actuators are listed in Valve Actuators.

About brand

Schischek makes explosion-proof HVAC products, including damper and valve actuators, sensors and controllers, and is now a Rotork brand. Seven Star LLC lists the Schischek ExMax and RedMax rotary actuators on this page and supplies them from Muscat as an independent supplier, with each type code checked against the manufacturer's datasheet.

Schischek actuator families listed here

The ExMax line is ATEX tested for zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 and comes in a size S housing (5 to 30 Nm) and a size M housing (24 to 150 Nm). The RedMax line shares the size M housing but is tested for zone 2 and zone 22 locations. Versions on this page include 3-position and on-off drives, spring return actuators, the BF type with an Ex-i tripping circuit for fire damper temperature triggers, 4 to 20 mA and modulating Y types with feedback, and a multi-turn type. All run from a 24 to 240 VAC/DC supply unless the datasheet states 24 V only.

Ordering Schischek actuators: what we need

Send the complete type code including the suffix and coating option, the torque, the running time, the supply voltage and the zone and temperature class of the installation. Terminal boxes, brackets, weather shields and shaft adapters are listed in each datasheet as separate accessories, so name them in the request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the control signal of the ExMax-S-CY?
4 to 20 mA, galvanically separated from the supply, with a 0 to 10 VDC feedback signal.
Can it run from 230 V?
No. The CY version is designed for 24 VAC/DC only. The multi-voltage actuators are other datasheets.
Is a spring return version available?
Yes, the CYF types add a spring return of about 10 s per 90 degrees.
What torque classes does the datasheet cover?
5 / 10 Nm, 15 / 30 Nm and, with spring return, 5 / 10 Nm and 15 Nm.
What must be done before first use?
Run the self-adjustment mode so the actuator learns the end positions and rotation angle.
