PCB Piezotronics 622B01 Precision Industrial ICP Accelerometer
Overview
The PCB Piezotronics 622B01 is a Platinum-series precision industrial ICP® accelerometer from the IMI Sensors line of PCB Piezotronics. Where a low-cost sensor is adequate for basic trending, the PCB Piezotronics 622B01 is chosen when analysts need a wider flat frequency band, tighter sensitivity tolerance and lower noise floor for detailed spectrum and time-waveform diagnostics. It offers 100 mV/g sensitivity held to ±5%, a frequency response of 0.2 to 15,000 Hz at ±3 dB and a broadband resolution of 50 µg, all inside a welded hermetic stainless steel housing rated IP68.
Seven Star LLC supplies the PCB Piezotronics 622B01 to rotating equipment specialists, condition monitoring service companies and plant reliability departments in Oman and the GCC. Our Muscat office supplies vibration sensors and accessories on request and can help select connectors, cables and junction boxes to suit portable analyzers, wireless nodes or permanently installed monitoring racks.
Operating Principle
As with other IMI industrial sensors, the PCB Piezotronics 622B01 uses a ceramic piezoelectric crystal loaded in shear by an internal seismic mass. Acceleration of the machine surface produces a proportional electrical charge across the crystal, and integrated IEPE electronics convert that charge into a low-impedance voltage output. In general, the shear configuration gives excellent immunity to base bending and temperature transients, which matters when the sensor sits on a thin bearing cap or a casing that cycles in temperature during start-up.
The precision grade of this model shows in its noise data. The datasheet gives typical spectral noise of 4.0 µg/√Hz at 10 Hz, 0.8 µg/√Hz at 100 Hz and 0.4 µg/√Hz at 1 kHz. Low noise at low frequency lets an analyst resolve vibration on slow-speed equipment such as cooling tower fans, agitators and large gearbox output shafts, while the 30 kHz mounted resonance keeps high-frequency bearing and gear mesh content clean.
Engineering Design of the PCB Piezotronics 622B01
The PCB Piezotronics 622B01 has a 7/8 in (22 mm) hex and a height of 2.06 in (52.3 mm), weighing 3.3 oz (94 g). It mounts on a 1/4-28 female thread at 2 to 5 ft-lb (2.7 to 6.8 Nm), and the standard electrical connector is a top-exit 2-pin MIL-C-5015 receptacle. The housing is stainless steel with a welded hermetic seal, case isolation exceeds 108 ohm, and the electronics include RFI and ESD protection, which helps where variable speed drives and radio equipment create electrical noise near the measurement point.
Power comes from an 18 to 28 VDC source at 2 to 20 mA constant current, the output bias is 8 to 12 VDC and the output impedance is below 100 ohm. The datasheet lists a TO option that adds a temperature output from +2 to +121 °C at +10 mV/°C through a 5-pin M12 connector, an M option with an M081A61 stud adapter for M6 x 1 holes and an EX option for hazardous areas, with approvals to be confirmed by the factory.
As general installation practice, a precision sensor only delivers its full bandwidth when it is stud mounted on a flat, spot-faced surface with a thin layer of coupling grease. Magnetic or adhesive mounts lower the usable upper frequency, so for permanent points the PCB Piezotronics 622B01 should be screwed directly into a drilled and tapped hole close to the bearing load zone, with the cable strain relieved and routed away from hot surfaces and power cables.
Key Features
The main reasons to specify the PCB Piezotronics 622B01 are:
- Sensitivity of 100 mV/g with a tight ±5% tolerance improves amplitude accuracy between interchangeable sensors.
- Flat response within ±5% from 0.58 to 6,000 Hz, with ±10% limits from 0.42 to 10,000 Hz.
- Extended ±3 dB range from 0.2 to 15,000 Hz supports high-frequency bearing analysis.
- Broadband resolution of 50 µg for detection of faint, early-stage defects.
- Measurement range of ±50 g and shock protection to 5,000 g pk.
- Operating temperature from -54 to +121 °C with an IP68 enclosure rating.
- RFI and ESD electrical protection for installations near drives and switchgear.
- Supplied with a Model 081A40 stud and an NIST-traceable calibration from 10 Hz to the upper 5% frequency.
Industrial Applications
The PCB Piezotronics 622B01 is well suited to critical and semi-critical machines where the monitoring program relies on detailed vibration analysis rather than overall levels only. Examples include crude transfer pumps, gas turbine auxiliary gearboxes, centrifugal compressors in packaged units, steam turbine driven boiler feed pumps and large induction motors in refineries, petrochemical complexes and independent power plants. Its low noise floor also makes it useful for slow fans and mixers in wastewater treatment and district cooling plants across Muscat and the Duqm and Sohar industrial zones.
Seven Star LLC supplies the PCB Piezotronics 622B01 together with cables, magnetic or stud mounts and signal conditioning options, and our engineers can help decide whether a site should use a precision unit, a lower-cost general-purpose model such as the PCB Piezotronics 356A01 tri-axial accelerometer, or a velocity sensor such as the Bently Nevada 330500 Velomitor piezo-velocity sensor. Where vibration data must reach a machinery protection rack, the Bently Nevada 3500 machinery protection system is a common destination for accelerometer signals.

Send the exact model number, including any prefix letters. PCB puts option codes in front of the base model, so a high-temperature or metric version carries a different prefix. Add the cable length and connector, and the signal conditioner or analyzer input you are using. For GCC test laboratories we can request the manufacturer's calibration certificate with the sensor.Browse PCB Piezotronics products by category: Vibration.
