Overview

The Brüel & Kjær Vibro SM-610-107 is a dual-point vibration and axial-position monitoring module within the modular VIBROCONTROL 6000 machine protection platform, combining radial vibration channels with dedicated axial shaft-position measurement in a single plug-in card. It is used by power generation, oil and gas, and petrochemical operators across Oman and the GCC on turbines, compressors, and other critical rotating machinery where both radial vibration and axial thrust position must be continuously supervised.

Operating Principle

The SM-610-107 accepts 8 vibration channels, configurable as up to 4 dual-point measurement pairs, alongside 2 dedicated axial displacement channels and 3 binary input signals. Vibration signals are processed through ISO 10816 and ISO 7919 compliant bandpass filtering to extract peak, RMS, and peak-to-peak values, while the axial channels provide DC static shaft-position and Smax/Max(X-Y) derivative measurements from DC to 20 kHz. Relay logic applies 1-out-of-8 voting for dual-point vibration channels and 1-of-2 voting for the axial channels, so an alarm reflects genuine machine condition rather than a single noisy sensor.

Engineering Design of the SM-610-107

The module provides 10 analogue DC outputs, configurable as 4-20 mA current or 0-10 V voltage signals, feeding plant DCS and recording systems continuously. Six relay outputs (3 Danger, 3 Alert) handle protective and warning functions, each energized from a −24 VDC ±2% sensor supply drawing up to 30 mA per channel. Input sensors supported include accelerometers rated to 80 g and velocity sensors at a typical 100 mV/mm/s sensitivity, alongside displacement probes, covering the range of transducers commonly found on turbine and compressor trains.
