Moxa NPort 5430I 4-Port RS-422/485 Isolated Device Server
Description
What the NPort 5430I gives a serial instrument
A four-port serial device server for RS-422 and RS-485 only, with 2 kV isolation on the serial side and terminal-block connectors instead of DB9. Moxa’s own one-line description of the NPort 5430I reads: 4-port RS-422/485 serial device server with 2 kV isolation.
On the datasheet side, the power input is 12 to 48 VDC, 24 VDC for DNV; operating temperature is 0 to 55°C (32 to 131°F); dimensions are 181 x 103 x 33 mm (7.14 x 4.06 x 1.30 in); weight is 740 g (1.63 lb).
Standards and approvals printed for this model include marine approvals (DNV); safety standard UL 62368-1. Approvals can differ between variants of a series, so check the one on the exact order code.

Selecting the right variant
The isolation protects the Ethernet side from ground-potential differences and surges on long RS-485 runs between buildings or across a plant, a common cause of lost serial communication. The terminal block connectors make field wiring simpler than adapting DB9 cables.
On the practical side, mounting is listed as desktop; din-rail mounting (with optional kit); wall mounting; the housing is metal; the stated MTBF is 718,600 hrs; the warranty period is 5 years. Treat the MTBF as a manufacturer prediction under its stated method, not a guarantee for your site.
Please check that your devices are RS-422 or RS-485 (this model has no RS-232 interface), the isolation requirement and the supply voltage, since a 24 VDC input is stated for DNV use before you place an order. Seven Star LLC supplies as an independent company and prices against the precise code requested.

The choice between switch types follows the network. An unmanaged switch simply forwards traffic and suits a small, isolated panel. A managed switch adds redundancy protocols (Moxa's Turbo Ring recovers a broken ring in milliseconds), VLANs to separate traffic, port mirroring and alarms, which a SCADA or DCS network needs. The suffix on a Moxa model also matters: "-T" means a wide operating temperature range (typically -40 to 75 °C), which is the safe choice for outdoor cabinets in the Gulf summer. "-MM-SC" or "-S-SC" means multi-mode or single-mode fibre with SC connectors.
Where Moxa products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Moxa equipment connects RTUs, PLCs, meters and protection relays in oil and gas fields, electrical substations, water and wastewater SCADA, transport, and building and energy management systems.
Ordering Moxa products: what we need
Send the complete model including all suffixes (for example EDS-508A-MM-SC-T), the quantity, and for fibre models the fibre type and distance. For gateways, tell us which two protocols need to be linked.
