Invertek Drives Optidrive E3 Single Phase Output VFD
Description
Single-phase output drive for PSC and shaded-pole motors
The Invertek Drives Optidrive E3 Single Phase Output is a variable frequency drive for small single-phase motors. Most drives output three phases, but fans, blowers and small pumps in commercial equipment often use permanent split capacitor or shaded-pole motors. This variant is built for those motors, which allows smooth speed control, soft starting and energy savings without changing to a three-phase motor. The range covers 0.37 to 1.1 kW (0.5 to 1.5 HP) on 110 to 230 V supplies, and is available in IP20 and IP66 (NEMA 4X) versions.
The data below is taken from the Invertek Drives Optidrive E3 Single Phase Output user guide.

Motor and installation requirements
The motor must be suitable for operation from a PWM inverter. If the motor manufacturer does not confirm this, additional output filtering may be needed to protect the winding. Where several motors are connected to one drive by parallel cables, the guide requires an output choke. As the output is single-phase, these drives are not a replacement for the three-phase E3 range; a motor that is wound for three phases needs the standard Optidrive E3.
Typical uses
Typical uses are ventilation fans, extractor units, small circulation pumps and appliance blowers. Fire mode, PI control and preset speeds are described in the user guide for applications that need them.
Choose the drive by the motor nameplate current, not only by power, because small single-phase motors often have a power factor and current that differ between makes. Check that the run capacitor is suitable for operation with an inverter, as the guide asks that the motor be suitable for PWM operation. Speed control of a single-phase motor is normally limited to fan and pump loads whose torque falls with speed. Direct-on-line starting of such motors causes high inrush current, which the drive removes by ramping the speed up gradually, and this also reduces mechanical stress on belts, couplings and impellers.

About brand
Invertek Drives designs and manufactures variable frequency drives at its global headquarters in Welshpool, Wales, in the United Kingdom. The company is part of Sumitomo Heavy Industries and holds ISO 9001 certification. Seven Star LLC lists selected Optidrive models with links to the official Invertek user guides.
Optidrive families
The Optidrive E3 is a compact general-purpose drive in IP20 and IP66 versions, with a variant for single-phase output motors. The Optidrive P2 is an industrial vector drive up to 250 kW, and the Optidrive Eco range is aimed at HVAC and pumping applications with built-in building and pump control functions.
Features such as sensorless vector control, Safe Torque Off, built-in fieldbus communication and low-harmonic design vary by family, so each product page lists the points that apply to that model and the limits of its environment.
