Invertek Drives Optidrive P2 Industrial Vector Drive
Description
High-performance vector drive for demanding machinery
The Invertek Drives Optidrive P2 is a high-performance variable frequency drive for industrial machines such as cranes, compressors, winders, extruders, mixers and process lines. It covers 0.75 to 250 kW (1 to 400 HP) on supplies from 200 to 600 V, single-phase and three-phase. Vector control gives up to 200 % torque from zero speed, and the drive allows 150 % overload for 60 seconds, which suits loads with high starting torque. It is available in IP20, IP55 and IP66 versions, so it can be fitted into a cabinet or mounted directly in the plant.
The data below is taken from the Invertek Drives Optidrive P2 user guide and brochure.

Control and connectivity
The P2 supports closed-loop and open-loop vector control of induction and permanent magnet motors, with optional encoder cards for applications that need exact speed or position. Modbus RTU and CANopen are on board. Option modules add the common industrial Ethernet and fieldbus networks, so the drive can be integrated into most PLC systems. The Optistick Smart tool stores and copies parameter sets, and application macros help to shorten commissioning.
Environment and compliance
IP55 and IP66 drives are intended for 3S3 and 3C3 environmental classes and IP20 drives for 3S2 and 3C2, as stated in the user guide. Derating applies at higher temperatures or altitude. The Safe Torque Off input is built in and designed to the SIL 2 level of EN 62061, so many machines no longer need an external safety contactor to prevent unexpected torque on the motor.
For cranes and hoists, the combination of high torque at zero speed, braking support and the safety input is relevant, while for compressors and extruders the overload rating and the ability to run at low speed under load matter more. When selecting a size, base the choice on the motor current and the duty cycle and not only on kilowatts, and remember that the overload rating is time limited. A drive for a continuous heavy duty may need to be one size larger than the motor power suggests.
How the Invertek Optidrive P2 works
A variable frequency drive converts the fixed-frequency supply into a variable voltage and frequency for an AC motor. The Optidrive P2 first rectifies the incoming supply to a DC bus, and then an inverter builds the output waveform with fast switching. In vector control the drive models the motor and controls torque and flux separately. This is why it can give up to 200 percent torque from zero speed and hold speed accurately under changing load. The drive can control induction motors and permanent magnet motors, in open loop or with encoder feedback.
Where the Optidrive P2 is used
- Cranes and hoists that need torque at zero speed
- Compressors and winders
- Extruders and mixers
- Process lines and conveyors
- Pumps and fans where speed control saves energy
- Machines mounted in the plant, with the IP55 or IP66 versions
Selection checklist for the Optidrive P2
- Motor power and full-load current, against the drive rating in amps
- Supply voltage and phases, from 200 to 600 V
- Overload need, 150 percent for 60 seconds
- Enclosure, IP20 for cabinets, IP55 or IP66 for wall mounting
- Ambient temperature and the need for derating
- Altitude above 1,000 m
- Fieldbus needed, such as PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet or EtherCAT
- Encoder feedback for exact speed or position
Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes
Mount the drive on a flat surface with the clearances for airflow that the user guide gives. Use screened motor cable and ground the screen at both ends, and keep control wiring away from power cables. Enter the motor nameplate data and run the auto-tune before the first start. Check the direction of rotation with the motor uncoupled. Clean the heat sink and the fans at planned intervals, and keep a copy of the parameter set.
Requesting a quotation for the Invertek Optidrive P2
Please send the model code, the motor data, the supply voltage, the enclosure and the options. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.
Optidrive P2 safety function
The drive has Safe Torque Off to SIL 2 under EN 62061. It removes the torque from the motor without disconnecting the power, which suits machines with guards and emergency stops.
Optidrive P2 communications
Modbus RTU and CANopen are built in. Option modules add the common Ethernet and fieldbus networks.
Optidrive P2 parameter tools
The Optistick Smart tool stores and copies parameter sets. Application macros shorten commissioning.
Optidrive P2 frame sizes
The range runs from frame size 2 to frame size 8. A 380-480 V three-phase drive of 0.75 kW draws 2.2 A, and a drive of 250 kW draws 480 A.
Drive records for Optidrive P2
Keep the model code, the parameter file, the motor data and the date of commissioning with the machine records.
