HYTORC AVANTI High-Torque Hydraulic Torque Wrench

Description

The HYTORC AVANTI is the largest line of HYTORC hydraulic torque wrenches. The cut sheet states that it offers the widest range of torque output, with a maximum of more than 130,000 ft-lbs (187683 Nm), and that it has been used by industry professionals for over two decades. Where the other HYTORC wrenches top out at the tens of thousands of newton-metres, the AVANTI is the tool for very large studs on pressure vessels, wind-turbine and tower flanges, mill equipment and heavy structural joints.

Reaction drive and torque-and-angle option

The AVANTI features a patented, industry-first reaction drive. Twisting forces are taken coaxially, so the tool is stable without a back-end reaction arm and the risk of damage from twisting forces is reduced. A side or coaxial reaction arm lets the user position the tool around the bolt regardless of the arm orientation. An optional Torque and Angle Dial driver gives precise readings for applications where angle control is specified. The tool works with conventional bolting equipment as well as with the HYTORC Nut and HYTORC Washer, and a lock-up release lever frees the wrench from the application.

Planning a high-torque job

For very large studs the key questions are the stud stress target, the lubrication factor and the access around the nut. Tool weight rises quickly above AVANTI-35, so lifting equipment or a support arm will be needed on the larger sizes, and the reaction path must be checked so that the load is carried by a surface that can take it. Select the drive size from the socket or link, confirm the hex or washer dimension, and decide whether a washer or nut system is to be used. Pump size must be able to supply the larger piston volume, and a hose set with quick couplers is a separate item. Because the AVANTI range is so wide, buyers often need two or three sizes for one project; list every stud size and torque on the enquiry so the sizes can be matched without overlap, and note the working temperature and any corrosion or ATEX requirements of the site.

How the HYTORC AVANTI works

Hydraulic pressure from a pump pushes a piston inside the wrench. The piston turns a square drive through a ratchet, and the drive turns the socket on the nut. Torque goes up with the oil pressure. The patented reaction drive takes the twisting force along the axis of the tool, so the wrench stays steady without a back-end reaction arm.

Where the AVANTI is used

  • Large studs on pressure vessels
  • Wind turbine and tower flanges
  • Mill equipment
  • Heavy structural joints
  • Jobs that need very high torque

Selection checklist for the AVANTI

  • Torque needed in Nm or ft-lbs
  • Model size from AVANTI-.7 to AVANTI-130
  • Square drive size
  • Weight of the tool
  • Height and radius for the space
  • Reaction arm position
  • Torque and Angle Dial option
  • Use with the HYTORC Nut or Washer

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the AVANTI

Choose the model by the torque with margin, and fit the right socket on the drive. Set the reaction arm against a firm point. Connect the hoses to the pump and check the pressure for the torque wanted. Release the wrench with the lock-up release lever. Keep the hoses and couplings clean and check them for leaks.

About brand

HYTORC is a US industrial bolting specialist known for hydraulic torque wrenches, electric and pneumatic torque tools, pumps and the reaction-washer and nut systems that go with them. The company has focused on controlled bolted joints since 1968, and its tools are used for flange make-up, structural steel, wind and power plant maintenance.

Torque tools for controlled bolting

The catalogue covers low-clearance and square-drive hydraulic wrenches, cordless electric torque tools, pneumatic multipliers and hydraulic pumps. Many tools accept the company reaction washer or nut, so the tool can push against the fastener itself instead of an adjacent object.

Specifying bolting equipment

Choose a tool by bolt size, required torque range, access clearance and the power source available on site. Each model page lists the published torque ranges and links to the manufacturer cut sheet where one exists. Seven Star LLC supplies HYTORC equipment against a stated torque range, drive size and power supply, and quotes after the bolting requirement is confirmed.

HYTORC publishes torque charts, manuals and cut sheets for each tool family, so the joint calculation can be checked against the manufacturer data before an order is placed.
