Many control valves in Gulf process plants carry a positioner labeled Metso, the Finnish company founded in 1999 and based in Espoo. The valve controller line itself goes by the Neles name, and current production of the same family is sold as Neles, so maintenance records may show either brand for one device. Seven Star LLC lists the Metso Neles ND9000 and supplies it to plants in Oman after checking the type code of the unit being replaced.

The ND9000 is an intelligent valve controller, a digital positioner that takes the control signal, drives a pneumatic actuator to the demanded position and reports diagnostics about valve travel and behavior. It mounts on rotary and linear control valves and on-off valves. The family is built in several communication versions and in different housings, which is why the model name alone is not enough to order one.

Ordering an ND9000: what we need

Send the complete type code from the nameplate, which begins with ND9 and continues with characters for the housing, pneumatic capacity, communication and approvals. Add the serial number, the actuator type (single or double acting), the mounting standard on the actuator and the hazardous area certification needed. Sites in the GCC should also state the cable entry thread, a detail that frequently differs between projects.
