Helukabel OZ-BL-CY Blue Screened Intrinsically Safe Cable

Description

The Helukabel OZ-BL-CY is a blue, screened PVC control cable for intrinsically safe circuits. The blue sheath (RAL 5015) is the colour used to mark intrinsically safe wiring, and the tinned-copper braid with foil wrapping protects the signal against interference. Helukabel lists it for flexible control and measurement cabling in explosion-endangered areas with ignition protection type -i-, where the circuit is not earthed and has its own power supply. It carries VDE Registration No. 7034 for temperatures up to +70 °C.

Intrinsically safe wiring: what the cable does and does not do

The data sheet refers to installation in explosion-endangered areas according to DIN VDE 0165-1 / DIN EN 60079-14 / IEC 60079-14. The cable is the transmission medium only: whether an intrinsically safe loop is acceptable depends on the barrier or isolator, the certified apparatus parameters, and the cable capacitance and inductance. That is why the capacitance and inductance values above matter when the loop is calculated. Keep intrinsically safe cores physically separated from non-intrinsically-safe circuits, and do not bury the cable in the ground, as Helukabel states.

Where the loop is a multipair instrument signal with individual pair screening, an instrumentation pair type such as the PAAR-TRONIC-CY is a better electrical match. The OZ-BL-CY suits control and measurement circuits with several individual cores.

Core counts and sizes

Part no. Cores x mm² Outer diameter mm (approx.) Weight kg/km (approx.)
14028 2 x 0.75 6.2 59.0
14029 3 x 0.75 6.6 66.0
14030 4 x 0.75 7.1 77.0
14033 10 x 0.75 10.7 180.0
14036 20 x 0.75 13.9 362.0
14041 2×1 6.5 65.0
14052 4 x 1.5 8.3 126.0
14060 3 x 2.5 9.2 167.0
14061 4 x 2.5 10.0 195.0

Cross-sections run from 0.75 mm² to 2.5 mm² with up to 41 cores at 0.75 mm². Terminate the screen at both ends with a large all-round contact area to obtain the stated EMC performance, unless the loop design requires single-ended screening.

About brand

Helukabel is a German cable manufacturer and supplier founded in 1978 and headquartered in Hemmingen near Stuttgart, part of the family-run HELU Group. Its catalogue covers control and connection cables, data and bus cables, motor and servo cables, drag-chain cables, power and fire-resistant cables, fibre optic and solar cables, together with cable accessories and assemblies.

Helukabel cable families

Industrial control cables such as JZ-500 and JZ-600, screened instrumentation cables such as PAAR-TRONIC-CY, motor cables for frequency converters such as TOPFLEX-EMV, halogen-free and fire-resistant power cables, welding cable, solar cable and Industrial Ethernet and fibre optic cables each have a data sheet with construction, standards, temperature range and a part-number table listing core count, cross-section, outer diameter and weight.

Supply from Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, sources Helukabel cables against the manufacturer part number and data sheet, and provides the data sheet with each quotation. Send the part number, or the cable type, core count, cross-section and length.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the OZ-BL-CY blue?
Blue (RAL 5015) is the colour that identifies intrinsically safe circuits, and Helukabel lists this cable for intrinsically safe systems with ignition protection type -i-.
Does the cable have a protective conductor?
No. The OZ designation means no green-yellow protective conductor, and intrinsically safe systems are not earthed through the cable.
What approval does it carry?
VDE Registration No. 7034, valid for temperatures up to +70 °C, and EAC, as printed on the data sheet.
What are the capacitance and inductance values?
Mutual capacitance core/core approx. 140 pF/m and core/screen approx. 187 pF/m at 800 Hz, and inductance approx. 0.68 mH/km.
Can it be buried in soil?
No. The data sheet states the cable is not suitable for burial in the ground.
