Helukabel N2XH-J Halogen-Free 0.6/1 kV Power Cable

Description

The Helukabel N2XH is a halogen-free low-smoke power and control cable rated 0.6/1 kV, with XLPE core insulation and a black thermoplastic polyolefin (HM4) sheath. It is sold as N2XH-J with a green-yellow earth core and N2XH-O without. The construction gives limited fire propagation, low smoke and no corrosive or toxic gases, which is why Helukabel names power stations, industrial installations, airports, underground and railway stations, hospitals and process control centres as typical places for it. The data sheet states that it has no circuit-integrity function.

Installation guidance

The data sheet states the cable is suitable for fixed installation in dry, damp or wet environments, in, above, on and beneath plaster, in masonry and in concrete. It is also suitable for outdoor use and underground if it is installed in conduits or tubes, with all precautions taken so that water cannot accumulate in the pipes. Caloric load values for fire-load calculations are given in the Helukabel technical information, so request them if the building specification needs them.

N2XH is the correct choice when the specification asks for halogen-free, low-smoke power cable. If the circuit must keep working during a fire, for example fire pumps, smoke extraction or emergency lighting feeds, use a circuit-integrity cable such as the (N)HXH FE 180/E 90 type instead.

How the Helukabel N2XH-J works

The N2XH-J is built to keep a fire from spreading and to give off little smoke if it burns. The copper conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene, and a black polyolefin outer sheath covers an overfilled inner sheath. The compounds are free of halogens, so a fire does not release the corrosive gases that damage equipment and make escape harder. The J type has a green-yellow earth core, and the O type has none. The cable has no circuit-integrity function, so it is not a replacement for a fire-resistant cable.

Where the N2XH-J is used

  • Power stations and industrial installations
  • Airports, underground and railway stations
  • Hospitals and process control centres
  • Fixed installation in dry, damp or wet rooms
  • Outdoor and underground routes in conduits
  • Power and control circuits at 0.6/1 kV

Selection checklist for the N2XH-J

  • Number of cores and the conductor cross-section for the load and the voltage drop
  • J type with an earth core, or O type without
  • Conductor class 1 or 2
  • Fire performance demanded by the building or the project specification
  • Minimum bending radius of 15 times the diameter for single core and 12 times for multi-core
  • Installation temperature of -5 to 50 degrees C, and the fixed range of -30 to 90 degrees C
  • Whether circuit integrity is needed, which this cable does not give

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Pull the cable within the bending radius and below the pulling force that the cable allows. Do not lay it below the installation temperature. Support the cable on trays, ladders or clips at the right spacing, and gland it with glands suited to the outer diameter. Test the insulation before energising. When the cable is run underground, use conduit and make sure that water cannot collect in the pipes.

Requesting a quotation for the Helukabel N2XH-J

Please send the number of cores, the cross-section, the length and the standard needed. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

N2XH-J core identification

The cores are marked to DIN VDE 0293-308. In the J type they are green-yellow, brown, black and grey, and in the O type they are blue, brown, black and grey.

N2XH-J fire tests

The data sheet lists the flame test to DIN EN 60332-3-24, the halogen-free test to DIN EN 50267-2-1, the corrosiveness test to DIN EN 50267-2-2 and the smoke density test to DIN EN 61034.

N2XH-J voltage rating

The nominal voltage is 0.6/1 kV, and the test voltage is 4 kV. The permissible conductor temperature is 90 degrees C.

N2XH-J radiation resistance

The sheath resists radiation up to 100 Mrad, which suits some plant areas where this is a concern.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the H in N2XH mean?
It denotes a halogen-free polyolefin sheath, so the cable gives off no corrosive or toxic halogen gases in a fire and has low smoke density.
What is the difference between N2XH-J and N2XH-O?
The J version contains a green-yellow earth conductor; the O version has none.
Does N2XH keep working during a fire?
No. The data sheet describes it as halogen-free without functionality, meaning no circuit-integrity rating. Use an FE 180 type for that.
What is the maximum conductor temperature?
The permissible conductor operating temperature is +90 °C, and fixed installation is -30 °C to +90 °C.
Can it be buried?
Helukabel states it is suitable for outdoor and underground use if installed in conduits or tubes, taking care that water cannot collect.
