Helukabel SUPER-PAAR-TRONIC-C-PUR Drag Chain Signal Cable

Description

The Helukabel SUPER-PAAR-TRONIC-C-PUR is an overall-screened, pair-stranded signal cable with a polyurethane sheath for drag chains. PP core insulation reduces friction and capacitance, the braid of tinned copper wires gives about 85 percent coverage, and the grey PUR outer sheath is cut-resistant and has low adhesion, so it slides well. Helukabel positions it for permanent flexing in machinery, machine tools, robot technology and multi-shift automated operation, as a transmission cable.

Using it in an energy chain

The data sheet carries three notes that matter for chain installations: the assembly instructions must be observed, the further application parameters should be taken from the selection guidance, and special applications such as long travel or high speeds should be discussed with Helukabel, which provides a data entry form for energy supply systems. The minimum bending radius is smaller for 0.14 to 0.25 mm² conductors (7.5x outer diameter) than for 0.5 to 1 mm² (10x). Terminate the screen at both ends with an all-round contact area for best EMC, and avoid crossing power and signal cables in the same chain compartment.

For static control wiring a PVC cable such as the PAAR-TRONIC-CY is more economical, and for motor supply lines in chains Helukabel offers the TOPFLEX 611-C-PUR.

How the SUPER-PAAR-TRONIC-C-PUR signal cable works

Signals from sensors, encoders and bus devices are weak, and they need protection from noise. In this cable the cores are twisted in pairs, so that interference induced in one core of a pair is nearly equal in the other and cancels out. An overall braid of tinned copper wires, with about 85 percent coverage, screens the whole cable against electric fields. The PP insulation is low in capacitance, which keeps signals clean over long runs, and the polyurethane sheath is tough and slides easily, so the cable can work in a drag chain for long periods.

Where the SUPER-PAAR-TRONIC-C-PUR is used

  • Drag chains in machine tools and handling machines.
  • Robot technology and automated multi-shift operation.
  • Signal and data transmission between controllers, sensors and drives.
  • Installations that need resistance to oil, coolants and abrasion.
  • Fixed installation where a flexible screened cable is preferred.

Selection checklist for the SUPER-PAAR-TRONIC-C-PUR

  • Number of pairs and the conductor cross-section from 0.14 to 1 mm2.
  • Nominal voltage of 350 V and the test voltage of 1500 V.
  • Mutual capacitance of about 60 pF/m, for the signal type.
  • Temperature range: flexible from -30 to +70 degrees C and fixed from -40 to +70 degrees C.
  • Minimum bending radius: 7.5 or 10 times the outer diameter, depending on the cross-section.
  • Travel length and speed of the chain.
  • Contact with oil, coolants, acids, alkalis or seawater.
  • Halogen-free requirement.
  • Shielding performance and the screen termination method.

Installation, termination and maintenance notes

Lay the cable in the chain without twisting, and give it room to move. Separate signal cables from power cables in the chain with dividers, and keep them apart outside the chain. Terminate the screen with a large contact to earth at one or both ends, following the system design. Check the cable regularly in a heavy chain application and replace it before the wear reaches the cores. Observe the assembly instructions of the cable manufacturer.

Requesting a quotation for the Helukabel SUPER-PAAR-TRONIC-C-PUR

Send the number of pairs, the cross-section, the length and the type of chain. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Why twisted pairs reduce noise

Noise couples about equally into both wires of a twisted pair, so a differential receiver sees almost no difference. Twisting is therefore a key part of a good signal cable.

Marking and records

The sheath has metre marks, and the cores follow a colour code. Record the cable type and the length on the cable schedule.

Spare cable for chain systems

Chain cables are wear parts, so keep a spare length for fast repair and plan replacement during scheduled stops.

Cable length in the chain and strain relief

Cut the cable to the length of the chain with enough extra at each end, and fix it at the moving end and the fixed end with strain relief. Keep the bending zone free of clamps or cable ties, so that the cable can move and find its natural position without being pinched.

Choosing between screened and unscreened chain cables

A screened cable protects signals near drives and motors. An unscreened cable is lighter and cheaper, and it is enough for simple signals far from noise. Check the signal type and the surroundings before choosing.
