Helukabel PAAR-TRONIC-CY Screened Pair Data Cable

Description

The Helukabel PAAR-TRONIC-CY is a screened, pair-stranded PVC data and signal cable with the DIN 47100 colour code, built for control and measuring signals in systems exposed to interference. Cores are twisted in pairs for crosstalk attenuation, wrapped in foil, covered by a tinned-copper braid of about 85 percent coverage with a tinned drain wire, and finished with a grey PVC sheath (RAL 7032). It is listed by Helukabel as an EMC-preferred type.

Selecting pairs and conductor size

Helukabel offers 0.14, 0.25, 0.34, 0.5, 0.75, 1 and 1.5 mm² conductors, in anything from a single pair to 55 pairs. Thin 0.14 and 0.25 mm² conductors are stranded from fine wires (about 18 x 0.1 mm and 14 x 0.15 mm), while 0.5 mm² and above are finely stranded to Class 5. Choose the conductor by loop current and cable length rather than by pair count alone, and add spare pairs where future signals are likely.

The cable is specified for flexible applications with free movement, no tensile load and no forced guidance, in dry, damp and wet rooms; it is not suitable for outdoors. For drag-chain use choose the PUR chain type in this family, the SUPER-PAAR-TRONIC-C-PUR.

How the Helukabel PAAR-TRONIC-CY screened cable works

In a data or signal cable, the conductors are twisted in pairs, so that interference picked up on one wire is picked up equally on its partner and cancels at the receiver. This lowers crosstalk between pairs. The foil wrapping and the tinned copper braid, with about 85 percent coverage, form an overall screen that directs external interference to earth through the drain wire. In this way analog, digital and measuring signals stay clean in plants where motors, drives and switching equipment create electrical noise.

Where the PAAR-TRONIC-CY is used

  • Control and instrumentation signal wiring in machines and plants.
  • Measuring and data signals near drives and motors.
  • Wiring in control cabinets and between cabinets.
  • Systems that need low-capacitance, multi-pair cabling with colour-coded cores.

Selection checklist for the PAAR-TRONIC-CY

  • Conductor size: 0.14, 0.25, 0.34, 0.5, 0.75, 1 or 1.5 mm2.
  • Number of pairs, from a single pair to 55 pairs, with spare pairs for later use.
  • Signal voltage, with a peak operating voltage of 350 V, and not for high power installations.
  • Temperature range: flexible use from -5 to +80 degrees C, and fixed installation from -30 to +80 degrees C.
  • Bending radius: 10 times outer diameter flexible, 5 times fixed.
  • Indoor use in dry, damp or wet rooms, not outdoors.
  • Fire behaviour: flame-retardant to DIN EN 60332-1-2.
  • Cable length and the loop resistance and capacitance the signal can tolerate.

Installation and earthing notes

Strip the sheath carefully so the braid and foil are not cut, and connect the drain wire and the braid to earth as the system design states. Earth the screen at the correct end or at both ends according to the signal type, and keep the screen continuous through junction boxes. Keep signal cables separate from power cables where possible, and cross them at right angles. Respect the minimum bending radius and avoid tensile load, forced guidance and moving applications that need a chain cable.

Send the number of pairs, conductor size, length and any packaging needs. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Electrical properties for design

The datasheet gives mutual capacitance, characteristic impedance of about 78 ohm, inductance and coupling resistance. Use these to check that the cable length suits the signal, especially for fast digital signals and long analog loops.

Choosing conductor size and pair count

Select the conductor by loop current and cable length instead of by the pair count alone. Thin conductors are stranded from fine wires, while 0.5 mm2 and above are finely stranded to Class 5. Add spare pairs where future signals are likely.

Cable identification and standards

The core insulation uses the DIN 47100 colour code, and the sheath carries metre marking so the length used can be checked on site. The cable is flame-retardant to DIN EN 60332-1-2 and carries the EAC mark. These details help with documentation and handover of the installation.

Limits of use

The cable is meant for signal and data duty and is not for high power current installations. It is not specified for outdoors or for drag chains, so choose a polyurethane chain cable for continuous movement and an outdoor-rated cable for exposed routes.
