Danfoss 134U7728 VLT Midi Drive FC 280, 0.55 kW, PROFINET

Description

A 0.55 kW VLT Midi Drive FC 280 with integrated PROFINET for small machine axes

The 134U7728 is the Danfoss order number for FC-280PK55T4E20H1BXCXXXSXXXXAL, a VLT Midi Drive FC 280 rated 0.55 kW (0.75 hp) on three-phase 380-480 V. It is the evolution of the VLT 2800 and is built for machine builders: the drive combines an integrated DC choke, RFI filter, dual-channel Safe Torque Off and brake chopper in the same K1 housing, and this variant has the PROFINET control card (letter code AL) fitted. A 0.55 kW motor is typical for small conveyors, dosing pumps, mixers and packaging machine auxiliaries that are controlled by a PLC over PROFINET.

Selection, installation and spares

The FC 280 does not include an LCP display or memory module; both are accessories. Danfoss lists the numeric LCP 21 (132B0254), the graphical LCP 102 (130B1107), a graphical LCP adapter (132B0281), the VLT Memory Module MCM 102 (132B0359) and VLT 2800 adapter plates, which suits retrofit of older VLT 2800 drives. The fact sheet notes side-by-side or horizontal mounting without derating and clearance, operation up to 45 °C without derating, and a mains supply of 380-480 V (-15%/+10%). Maximum motor cables are 50 m screened and 75 m unscreened.

This page is for the exact code above; for the whole 0.37-22 kW range see our Danfoss VLT Midi Drive FC 280 family page. A 0.55 kW motor may be controlled with either K1 variant; confirm the fieldbus you need and the version of PROFINET master before ordering.

The Danfoss FC 280 documentation lists vibration resistance of 1.14 g and states EMC compliance to EN 61800-3. The drive belongs to the IE2 efficiency class for power drive systems, so it can support energy-efficiency documentation for a machine. Confirm the approvals required in your region against the label of the delivered unit.

Installation of the FC 280 in a machine control panel

The 134U7728 is an IP20 chassis unit, so it belongs inside a closed control cabinet rather than on the machine frame. Mount it on a flat metal back plate, keep the cooling air path at the top and bottom of the housing free of cable trunking, and route the motor cable away from PROFINET and sensor wiring. Use a screened motor cable with the screen clamped at both ends on the drive and motor side, and keep mains, motor and control cables in separate ducts where possible. Because the drive has a built-in brake chopper, an external braking resistor can be connected when the machine has frequent stops or a high-inertia load; size it with the Danfoss design guide rather than by estimate.

Before switching on, check the incoming supply against the 380-480 V rating, confirm the protective earth connection and verify that the Safe Torque Off terminals are wired to the safety circuit as the machine risk assessment requires. If STO is not used, the jumper arrangement described in the Danfoss operating guide must be in place or the drive will not run.

Commissioning over PROFINET

Commissioning normally starts with the motor nameplate data: rated power, voltage, current, frequency and speed entered into the motor parameter group, followed by an automatic motor adaptation where the application allows it. Since this variant has no display fitted, a technician will usually need an LCP panel or the Danfoss PC software to make these settings and to read alarms on site. The PROFINET device name and the GSDML file for the drive must match the PLC project, and the control word and speed reference mapping should be tested with the motor uncoupled before the machine runs under load. Save the finished parameter set; a memory module or a software backup makes a later replacement much quicker.

Selection checks before ordering

  • Motor current on the nameplate compared with the continuous output current of the drive, not only the kW figure.
  • Duty profile: frequent starts, reversing or long ramps may call for a braking resistor and a review of the intermittent current.
  • Fieldbus: this code is the PROFINET version; a machine using another network needs a different control card code.
  • Motor cable length and screening against the limits stated in the fact sheet.

Operating the drive in Oman and GCC conditions

Panels in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and inland plants often see high summer temperatures, fine dust and coastal humidity. The coated PCB in this type code helps against moisture and contamination, but the cabinet itself does most of the work: use a panel cooler or filtered fan sized for the total heat loss in the enclosure, replace filter mats regularly, and keep the cabinet door seals intact. Where the panel sits in direct sun, a canopy or shaded location reduces internal temperature. During routine maintenance, check terminal tightness, look for dust build-up on the heat sink, read the alarm log and confirm that the drive fan, where fitted, runs freely. Recording parameter changes in the machine documentation helps the next engineer who works on the line.

About brand

From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them.

Seven Star LLC lists Danfoss VLT drives, pressure transmitters, refrigeration valves and HVAC control valves, and supplies them to contractors and plant owners in Oman against the exact code number on the label.

Danfoss product families on this page

Among the VLT drives listed, three are each aimed at a different duty: the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102 for fans and building services, the VLT AQUA Drive FC 202 for water and wastewater pumping, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 for general industrial machinery. The LCP 12 control panel with potentiometer (code number 132B0101) is also listed; Danfoss specifies it for the VLT Micro Drive FC 51. In pressure measurement there are the MBS 3000 general purpose transmitter and the MBS 5100. Valves include the AB-QM pressure independent control valve in DN 15 to DN 250, the EVR 25 servo-operated solenoid valve and the ICV pilot-operated valve for industrial refrigeration.

Where Danfoss equipment is used

District cooling and chilled water plants, air handling units, booster and irrigation pump stations, desalination and wastewater works, ammonia and CO2 refrigeration plants, food storage and marine engine rooms are the usual places. Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.

Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need

Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.
