Danfoss 132F0024 VLT Micro Drive FC 51 3.0 kW 380-480 V Frequency Converter

Description

A 3 kW three-phase drive in the compact M3 frame

132F0024 is the Danfoss VLT Micro Drive FC 51 rated 3.0 kW (4 hp) on a three-phase 380-480 V supply, model code FC-051P3K0T4E20H3BXCXXXSXXX. It is the smallest of the three-phase ratings that use the M3 enclosure, and it is the first step above the 2.2 kW size covered by the existing FC 51 page on this site. At 7.2 A continuous output on 380-440 V it fits the common 3 kW, 4-pole motor on 400 V networks, and the built-in brake chopper allows a brake resistor to be wired directly for loads that need to stop faster than the coast-down time.

Typical duties and protection for a 3 kW FC 51

A 3 kW rating suits mid-size fans, screw conveyors, dosing and booster pumps and machine tools. The Design Guide recommends a 40 A gG fuse for non-UL installations and Bussmann KTS-R40 where UL compliance is needed, and lists the Line Filter MCC 107 130B2529 for this code when harmonic reduction is required. Maximum shielded motor cable length for EMC-correct installation is 15 m, and 50 m unshielded. Remember that output current drops from 7.2 A to 6.3 A when the supply is 440-480 V, so check the motor current at the real voltage.

Panel and wiring budget: the estimated loss is 75.0 W best case and 98.5 W typical, about 2.5 to 3.3 percent of the 3 kW rating, with an efficiency of 98.0 percent best case and 97.2 percent typical. The M3 enclosure is 239 mm high, 90 mm wide and 194 mm deep, with mounting holes 226 mm apart vertically and 69 mm apart horizontally. Terminals take 4 mm2 cable at 0.8 Nm for mains and 0.7 Nm for motor leads. Input current is 11.5 A at 380-440 V; the 40 A gG fuse figure is a maximum for the drive, so size the cable and breaker for the application.

Ordering number, accessories and availability

In FC-051P3K0T4E20H3BXCXXXSXXX, P3K0 is 3.0 kW, T4 is three-phase 380-480 V and B is the built-in brake chopper. For the M3 frame the Design Guide lists a Type 1 kit 132B0105 and a decoupling plate 132B0107 and an IP21 kit 132B0110. Line Filter MCC 107 130B2529 is paired with 132F0024 in the ordering table. The Danfoss store marks this code with a last time buy of 30 June 2026 and a last time delivery of 30 September 2026 and suggests the iC2-Micro; confirm what remains before ordering. Quote 132F0024 together with the full model code when requesting a price.

Selecting and installing the FC 51 3.0 kW

Matching drive and motor

Drive selection is based on motor current rather than kilowatts alone. On a 400 V supply the 132F0024 delivers 7.2 A continuously and 10.8 A for 60 seconds, which covers a standard 3 kW four-pole motor. Older or high-slip motors, and motors with a lower power factor, may draw more than the typical nameplate current for their size; in that case the next rating up is the safer choice. Where the plant supply runs at the upper end of the range (440–480 V), use the reduced 6.3 A continuous figure.

Control features useful in small machines

  • VVC+ and U/f control: VVC+ gives better torque at low speed for conveyors and mixers, while U/f mode allows output up to 400 Hz and suits parallel motors or special high-speed applications.
  • Built-in brake chopper: the “B” in the type code means a brake resistor can be connected directly for faster stopping of high-inertia loads.
  • Integrated EMC filter: the H3 filter avoids a separate external filter in many installations, provided the cable lengths in the Design Guide are respected.
  • Compact footprint: at 90 mm wide, the M3 frame lets several drives sit side by side on a backplate.

Heat, dust and humidity in Omani installations

The FC 51 is an IP20 chassis drive. In Oman and the wider GCC it should be mounted in an enclosure that keeps out sand and fine dust, with filtered ventilation or cooling sized for the 75–98.5 W heat loss of this unit plus other equipment in the panel. Coastal sites with salt-laden humid air call for well-sealed enclosures and, where condensation is possible, anti-condensation heaters for periods when the drive is switched off. The optional IP21 and Type 1 kits listed for the M3 frame improve touch protection but do not replace a proper enclosure in dusty outdoor locations.

Installation and maintenance tips

  1. Respect the vertical mounting orientation and the free space above and below the drive for airflow.
  2. Use the decoupling plate and shielded motor cable (up to 15 m for EMC compliance) and bond the screen correctly.
  3. Tighten mains terminals to 0.8 Nm and motor terminals to 0.7 Nm.
  4. Enter the motor data and run the automatic motor adaptation where possible before starting the load.
  5. Clean the heatsink and check cooling-fan operation during scheduled shutdowns, especially after sandstorm seasons.

Replacing an existing FC 51

Because Danfoss has announced last-time-buy dates for this code, many requests are for like-for-like replacement of installed units. When replacing, record the parameter set from the old drive or its local control panel, and check the full type code on the nameplate so that EMC filter, brake chopper and enclosure options match. If the iC2-Micro successor is considered, compare dimensions, terminal layout and parameters before deciding.

About brand

From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them.

Seven Star LLC lists Danfoss VLT drives, pressure transmitters, refrigeration valves and HVAC control valves, and supplies them to contractors and plant owners in Oman against the exact code number on the label.

Danfoss product families on this page

Among the VLT drives listed, three are each aimed at a different duty: the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102 for fans and building services, the VLT AQUA Drive FC 202 for water and wastewater pumping, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 for general industrial machinery. The LCP 12 control panel with potentiometer (code number 132B0101) is also listed; Danfoss specifies it for the VLT Micro Drive FC 51. In pressure measurement there are the MBS 3000 general purpose transmitter and the MBS 5100. Valves include the AB-QM pressure independent control valve in DN 15 to DN 250, the EVR 25 servo-operated solenoid valve and the ICV pilot-operated valve for industrial refrigeration.

Where Danfoss equipment is used

District cooling and chilled water plants, air handling units, booster and irrigation pump stations, desalination and wastewater works, ammonia and CO2 refrigeration plants, food storage and marine engine rooms are the usual places. Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.

Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need

Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.
