Danfoss 134U7741 VLT Midi Drive FC 280 22 kW PROFINET Frequency Converter
Description
A 22 kW Midi Drive with integrated PROFINET
134U7741 is the Danfoss VLT Midi Drive FC 280 with model code FC-280P22KT4E20H1BXCXXXSXXXXAL. It is the 22 kW (30 hp), three-phase 380-480 V drive in the K5 frame, and the AL ending of the code means the control card has integrated PROFINET. The FC 280 is Danfoss’s compact drive for asynchronous and permanent magnet synchronous motors up to 22 kW, so this order number is the top of that range. No separate option card is needed for PROFINET: the interface sits on the control cassette, and Modbus RTU over RS485 is built in as well.

Decoding FC-280P22KT4E20H1BXCXXXSXXXXAL
FC-280 is the VLT Midi Drive FC 280. P22K is the 22 kW power size and T4 three-phase 380-480 V AC. E20 is IP20 chassis and H1 the integrated RFI filter. B means a brake chopper is included; the next X is no display, so the local control panel is ordered separately; C is a coated PCB. Then X (no mains option), X (adaptation A), X (adaptation B), SXXX (latest software release), X (standard language pack) and finally AL, the integrated PROFINET control card. The Design Guide lists the spare VLT Cassette control PROFINET as 132B0348.
Selecting and installing the K5 frame
The K5 frame is the largest of the five FC 280 sizes. At 12.5 kg it is a panel-mounted drive with a 16 mm2 (6 AWG) maximum cable cross-section for the 22 kW rating. Fuse and cable sizing should follow the input currents of 41.5 A and 34.6 A, and the Design Guide lists the K5 derating curve for high ambient temperature. The numerical control panel LCP 21 (132B0254) and the LCP Remote Mounting Kit 132B0102 are the matching accessories; the terminal cover for K5 is 132B0358 and the decoupling kit for K4/K5 is 132B0375. For K4 and K5 drives with the internal A1 filter, the Design Guide lists external EMC filters and the resulting cable length limits in its EMC section.
Key features of the 134U7741 configuration
- PROFINET on the control card: the drive connects directly to a PROFINET controller for start, stop, speed reference and status data, without an additional communication option module.
- Modbus RTU as standard: the RS485 port remains available, which is useful for service tools or for plants that use Modbus for secondary monitoring.
- Integrated brake chopper: with an external brake resistor, regenerated energy from decelerating high-inertia loads can be dissipated instead of tripping the drive on overvoltage.
- Coated PCB: the C designation gives the electronics extra protection against humidity and airborne contaminants.
- Safe Torque Off: dual-channel STO terminals allow the drive to form part of a machine safety circuit.
- Support for PM motors: the FC 280 controls both asynchronous and permanent magnet synchronous motors, so it can be used with high-efficiency motor designs.
Planning a PROFINET installation
Before commissioning, obtain the device description (GSDML) file for the FC 280 PROFINET control card and import it into the engineering tool of the controller. Assign each drive a unique device name, as PROFINET addressing relies on names rather than switch settings. Use industrial Ethernet cable and connectors, route network cables separately from motor cables, and earth cable shields at the drive. When several drives sit on one network, a structured layout with managed switches simplifies fault finding and keeps one failed device from interrupting the rest of the line.
Working without a display
This model code is supplied without a control panel. For a first parameter set, either add the LCP 21 numerical panel listed above or use the PC software and the communication port. In plants with many FC 280 drives, one portable panel is often kept by the maintenance team, while the drives themselves are controlled entirely through the fieldbus.
Installation and maintenance practice
- Mount the K5 drive vertically with clearance above and below for cooling air, and include the 467.5 W loss in the panel heat calculation.
- Respect the maximum motor cable lengths; longer runs require output filters and a review of EMC performance.
- Size the brake resistor using the drive’s brake data and the actual load inertia and deceleration time.
- Inspect fans and cooling surfaces periodically, check terminal tightness and keep the parameter backup up to date.
Applications in Oman and GCC conditions
At 22 kW the FC 280 is commonly used for conveyors, packaging lines, process pumps, mixers and air handling fans in factories, food plants and utilities. In GCC panels, ambient temperature inside the enclosure is usually the limiting factor, so ventilated or air-conditioned panels and the derating curve in the Design Guide should be checked together. The coated PCB helps in humid coastal sites, and IP20 drives should be installed in an enclosure that keeps out fine dust and sand.
What to include in your RFQ
- Ordering number 134U7741 or the full model code
- Motor data: power, rated current, voltage and motor type (induction or PM)
- Whether a control panel, remote mounting kit, IP21 conversion kit or brake resistor is required

About brand
From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them.
Seven Star LLC lists Danfoss VLT drives, pressure transmitters, refrigeration valves and HVAC control valves, and supplies them to contractors and plant owners in Oman against the exact code number on the label.
Danfoss product families on this page
Among the VLT drives listed, three are each aimed at a different duty: the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102 for fans and building services, the VLT AQUA Drive FC 202 for water and wastewater pumping, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 for general industrial machinery. The LCP 12 control panel with potentiometer (code number 132B0101) is also listed; Danfoss specifies it for the VLT Micro Drive FC 51. In pressure measurement there are the MBS 3000 general purpose transmitter and the MBS 5100. Valves include the AB-QM pressure independent control valve in DN 15 to DN 250, the EVR 25 servo-operated solenoid valve and the ICV pilot-operated valve for industrial refrigeration.
Where Danfoss equipment is used
District cooling and chilled water plants, air handling units, booster and irrigation pump stations, desalination and wastewater works, ammonia and CO2 refrigeration plants, food storage and marine engine rooms are the usual places. Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.
Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need
Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.
