Bently Nevada 330180-90-00 3300 XL Proximitor, 9 m Panel

Description

330180-90-00: 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor, 9.0 m system, panel mount

The Bently Nevada 330180-90-00 is a 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor for 3300 XL 8 mm eddy-current proximity probes. It is the signal conditioner that drives the probe tip, reads the change in coil impedance caused by the shaft and returns a negative dc voltage proportional to probe-to-target gap. This version is built for a 9.0 m (29.5 ft) system length in the panel mount style and carries no agency approval option.

The ordering pattern is 330180-AA-BB. For 330180-90-00 the first pair, 90, selects 9.0 m total system length with panel mount; the second pair, 00, means no agency approval is required.

How the 330180-90-00 turns gap into a voltage

The 330180-90-00 excites the probe coil with a radio-frequency signal, measures how far the target loads that coil and outputs a negative dc voltage that rises in magnitude as the gap opens. The slowly changing part of the voltage tells you rotor position, such as thrust or shaft centerline, while the superimposed ac part is the vibration waveform. With a 9.0 m system the signal travels through more cable, so the datasheet widens the scale-factor tolerance to ±6.5% and the best-fit-line deviation to under ±1.5 mil, still with no per-channel calibration.

330180-90-00 for long cable runs: why choose the 9.0 m panel-mount version

Code 90 gives a 9.0 m system length with a four-hole panel mount. The extra length helps when the Proximitor Sensor has to sit outside a hot or vibrating machine zone, or in a junction box well away from the bearing housing, while the probe still reaches the shaft.

Probe plus extension cable must add up to 9.0 m. Typical combinations from the datasheet are a 1.0 m probe with an 8.0 m extension (080), 2.0 m with 7.0 m (070), 0.5 m with 8.5 m (085), a 3.0 m probe (330101 only) with 6.0 m (060), or a single 9.0 m probe cable with no extension. The 9 m system should not be mixed with 5 m probes, which are designed for the 5 m sensor only.

Related 3300 XL parts and family overview

The 330180-90-00 belongs to a four-way matrix of 3300 XL 8 mm Proximitor Sensors. Sibling parts are 330180-50-00 (5.0 m, panel mount), 330180-51-00 (5.0 m, DIN mount), 330180-90-00 (9.0 m, panel mount) and 330180-91-00 (9.0 m, DIN mount); the ordering table also lists 10, 11 and 12 for 1.0 m systems and 52 and 92 for 5.0 m and 9.0 m systems supplied without mounting hardware, plus option 05 for CSA, ATEX and IECEx approvals. Probes in the 330101 to 330106 families and the 330130 standard extension cable complete the chain.

330180-51-00 5.0 m (16.4 ft) DIN mount

Selection and ordering checklist for 330180-90-00

  • Verify the total of probe length and extension cable is exactly 9.0 m
  • Confirm panel mounting with the four-hole footprint; DIN-rail users need 330180-91-00 instead
  • Allow for the slightly wider tolerance of a 9 m system when setting alarm limits
  • Check the cable bend radius of 25.4 mm (1.0 in) along the entire route
  • Confirm the monitor supply and input match 3300 XL output at -24 Vdc
  • State if a non-4140 steel target requires special calibration

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the 330180-90-00

Panel-mount sensors use four 6-32 UNC thread-forming screws (04310310, supplied with the panel option) on the same hole pattern as older Proximitor designs, so the 330180-90-00 can often replace an older unit in the existing mounting holes. The mounting base is electrically isolated, so no extra isolator plate is needed.

After mounting, route the extension cable away from power cables, fit connector protectors where possible and keep the long run supported. Verify the system by gapping the probe at about -9 Vdc, and use the test plug 148722-01 on the terminal strip pins when checking in the field.

  • Replacement panel-mount mounting pad is listed as 138492-01
  • Long cable runs are more exposed to mechanical damage, so secure and label the route
  • Frequency response stays at 0 to 10 kHz (+0/-3 dB) with up to 305 m of field wiring
  • Keep one spare sensor per machine train type; the same part serves any 9 m XL 8 mm channel
  • Record gap voltage at commissioning for future trend comparison

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

For the 330180-90-00 the typical Omani and GCC site is a large compressor train, gas turbine package or pump house where the machine is on one level and the control cabinet is on another. In desalination and power plants cable trays often run long distances through hot, humid or salt-laden areas, so the 9 m system keeps the sensor in the cabinet and avoids moving junction boxes. It is also common as a like-for-like replacement for older 9 m 3300 sensors on installed machines.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.

Where Bently Nevada systems are used

In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.

Ordering and replacement: what we need

For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.

FAQ

Questions about the Bently Nevada 330180-90-00 3300 XL Proximitor, 9 m

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What does 330180-90-00 mean?
It follows the 330180-AA-BB pattern. Code 90 selects a 9.0 m system length with panel mounting, and 00 means no agency approval option.
02How is a 9 m system built with the 330180-90-00?
Probe and extension cable lengths must add up to 9.0 m, for example 1.0 m plus 8.0 m, 2.0 m plus 7.0 m, or a single 9.0 m probe cable without extension.
03How does accuracy differ from the 5 m version?
For the 9 m system the datasheet gives a scale factor of 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) ±6.5% and a best-fit-line deviation of less than ±1.5 mil. The 5 m system is ±5% and ±1 mil.
04What is the temperature range of the 330180-90-00 sensor?
The Proximitor Sensor operates from -52 to +100 °C and can be stored from -52 to +105 °C. Probe and cable limits are separate and depend on the probe type.
05Can the 330180-90-00 be used with 3300 5 mm probes?
Yes. The sensor input accepts a 3300 5 mm or 3300 XL 8 mm probe with extension cable, but mixing non-XL parts limits the system to non-XL performance.
