Bently Nevada 330180-51-00 3300 XL Proximitor, 5 m DIN
Description
330180-51-00: 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor, 5.0 m system, DIN-rail mount
The Bently Nevada 330180-51-00 is a 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor for 3300 XL 8 mm eddy-current proximity probes. It is the signal conditioner that drives the probe tip, reads the change in coil impedance caused by the shaft and returns a negative dc voltage proportional to probe-to-target gap. This version is built for a 5.0 m (16.4 ft) system length in the DIN-rail mount style and carries no agency approval option.
The ordering pattern is 330180-AA-BB. For 330180-51-00 the first pair, 51, selects 5.0 m total system length with DIN-rail mount; the second pair, 00, means no agency approval is required.

How the 330180-51-00 turns gap into a voltage
Inside the housing the Proximitor Sensor generates a radio-frequency signal that is sent down the coaxial probe cable to the coil in the probe tip. A conductive target such as the rotor changes the coil loading as the gap changes, and the circuitry converts that into a dc level that follows static position, plus an ac component that follows shaft vibration. The 3300 XL generation uses gold-plated ClickLoc connectors and SpringLoc terminal strips, so probe, extension cable and sensor lock together by hand and field wires clamp without screwdrivers. Because it is factory calibrated to AISI 4140 steel, the part drops into any standard 3300 XL channel without bench matching.
330180-51-00 in a DIN-rail layout: what the 51 code means in practice
Code 51 gives a 5.0 m system length with the sensor body prepared for DIN-rail clip mounting. The thin 3300 XL body was designed for dense DIN-rail rows, which is why this variant is the usual pick when many channels land in one junction box or marshalling cabinet and the installer wants a rail-based layout that matches the rest of the cabinet hardware.
Because the system length is 5.0 m, probe length plus extension cable length has to add up to 5.0 m. A 1.0 m probe takes a 4.0 m extension (code 040), a 1.5 m probe takes 3.5 m (035), or a 5.0 m integral-cable probe is used with no extension at all. The datasheet states that standard 3300 XL 8 mm 5 m systems comply with API 670 for mechanical configuration, linear range, accuracy and temperature stability, which matters on machines specified to that standard.
Related 3300 XL parts and family overview
The 330180-51-00 belongs to a four-way matrix of 3300 XL 8 mm Proximitor Sensors. Sibling parts are 330180-50-00 (5.0 m, panel mount), 330180-51-00 (5.0 m, DIN mount), 330180-90-00 (9.0 m, panel mount) and 330180-91-00 (9.0 m, DIN mount); the ordering table also lists 10, 11 and 12 for 1.0 m systems and 52 and 92 for 5.0 m and 9.0 m systems supplied without mounting hardware, plus option 05 for CSA, ATEX and IECEx approvals. Probes in the 330101 to 330106 families and the 330130 standard extension cable complete the chain.

Selection and ordering checklist for 330180-51-00
- Confirm the probe family is 3300 XL 8 mm (or 3300 5 mm) and that the probe plus extension cable total 5.0 m
- Confirm DIN-rail mounting is wanted; if panel mounting is needed the sibling is 330180-50-00
- Decide whether agency approvals are required; this part carries option 00, and option 05 is a separate part number
- Check the junction box or housing has DIN-rail space and the bend radius of 25.4 mm (1.0 in) can be respected
- Verify the monitor input expects the 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) 3300 XL signal at a -24 Vdc supply
- Ask for calibration to a different target material only if the shaft is not AISI 4140 steel
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the 330180-51-00
Mount the sensor on the rail, land the three field wires in the SpringLoc terminal strip, then connect the extension cable by hand until the ClickLoc connectors click. Connector protectors are recommended on every installation, and silicone tape is supplied with each extension cable as an alternative, though it is not advised where the joint can see turbine oil.
Commission by setting the probe gap to about -9 Vdc, then moving the target through its range to confirm the output follows the expected 7.87 V/mm slope. The 3300 XL test plug (148722-01) connects to the test pin holes on the terminal strip so the sensor can be checked without lifting the field wiring.
- Record the gap voltage and the dynamic signal at commissioning as a baseline for later comparison
- Keep tip-to-tip spacing at about 40 mm for axial and 38 mm for radial probes to limit cross-talk below 50 mV
- Replacement DIN-mount mounting pads are listed as 138493-01
- Enclosures from the same family, such as 175751 and 176467, hold several sensors in one box
- Check connector protectors and the extension cable jacket on every outage
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
In Oman and the GCC the 330180-51-00 is typically specified for compressors, gas turbines, steam turbines, pumps and motors on fluid-film bearings in oil and gas gathering stations, power plants, desalination units and petrochemical sites. Marshalling cabinets in these plants are usually rail-based and run hot, dusty and humid; a DIN-mounted sensor row with SpringLoc terminals keeps wiring tidy and quick to service during a shutdown. It also suits skid packages that arrive pre-wired where the OEM standardised on DIN-rail layouts.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.
Where Bently Nevada systems are used
In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.
Ordering and replacement: what we need
For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.

FAQ
Questions about the Bently Nevada 330180-51-00 3300 XL Proximitor, 5 m
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01What does 330180-51-00 mean?
It follows the 330180-AA-BB pattern. Code 51 selects a 5.0 m system length with DIN-rail mounting, and 00 means no agency approval option.
02What probe and cable can be used with the 330180-51-00?
It accepts one 3300 XL 8 mm or 3300 5 mm probe with a 3300 XL extension cable. Probe plus extension length must equal 5.0 m, or a 5.0 m probe is used without an extension.
03What is the output and range of the 330180-51-00?
The scale factor is 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) over a 2 mm (80 mil) linear range from about 0.25 to 2.3 mm, with a recommended gap near 1.27 mm.
04What supply voltage does it need?
It requires -17.5 to -26 Vdc at a maximum of 12 mA. With barriers the supply must be -23 to -26 Vdc to avoid a reduced linear range.
05Is the 330180-51-00 suitable for hazardous areas?
This part is the no-approval option, 00. If CSA, ATEX or IECEx approvals are required the ordering table lists a separate option 05 build, so confirm the approval before ordering.
