Bently Nevada 3500/94M VGA Display Monitor

Description

Overview

The Bently Nevada 3500/94M VGA Display Monitor gives a 3500 machinery protection rack its own local operator display. The Bently Nevada 3500/94M module drives a 10-inch or 15-inch industrial touch screen that shows all 3500 system information: the system event list, the alarm event list, all module and channel data, alarm and OK status, and up to nine custom screens. By default one bar graph screen shows all 1X-filtered vibration measurements and another shows the proximity transducer gap values, which gives technicians a quick health check of every probe without a laptop.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Bently Nevada 3500/94M system, including the VGA module, I/O module, displays, router box, fiber KVM extenders and cables, to customers in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. The manufacturer datasheet (122M3217 Rev. N) is attached to this page, and our team can help work out the right ordering option for one rack or a group of racks.

Operating Principle

The Bently Nevada 3500/94M reads monitor status, data and values from the rack over the high-speed internal network and produces analog red, green, blue and sync signals at its VGA port. Touch commands come back from the display through an RS232 port on the I/O module, and a front port can deliver 24 Vdc power, the VGA signal and touch commands to a display mounted directly on the rack face. Custom screens are configured in the 3500 Rack Configuration Software and can be organised into machine train groups, with system data arranged into pages, so each operator view can follow the layout of the plant.

The display normally sits close to the rack: standard cables reach up to 6 m (20 ft). For longer distances a single-mode fiber optic Keyboard Video Monitor (KVM) extender carries the image from more than 10 m up to 10 km with no loss of image quality; the KVM receiver and transmitter are not certified for hazardous locations and must sit in a safe area or approved enclosure. The optional Display Router Box lets one display show data from up to four 3500 racks, with alarm and OK status always visible in the upper right corner and a rack select button that changes colour if any connected rack is Not OK or in alarm.

Engineering Design of the Bently Nevada 3500/94M

The Bently Nevada 3500/94M module occupies one full-height front slot, measures 241.3 × 24.4 × 241.8 mm and weighs 0.73 kg; its I/O module takes one full-height rear slot and weighs 0.34 kg. Power consumption is 4.6 W maximum, and OK and TX/RX LEDs on the front show module health and communication. The Bently Nevada 3500/94M module operates from −20 to +65 °C. The datasheet lists the 3500/22 Transient Data Interface as required hardware, together with minimum firmware and software versions: 3500/94M firmware 4.06 Rev. C, 3500/22 TDI firmware Rev 1.71, 3500/01 Rev 5.6, 3500/02 Rev 2.21 and 3500/03 Rev 1.22.

Two display types are supported by the Bently Nevada 3500/94M. The Advantech 10-inch unit (ANA-D3510-100-A1) is an LCD with LED backlight, resistive touch, a housing designed for IP54, an operating range of −20 to +65 °C, and certification for hazardous locations; it can be face, rack, panel or independently mounted. The Advantech 15-inch unit (FPM-8151H) offers IP65, Class 1 Division 2, rack or panel mounting and 0 to 60 °C operation, but is not certified to ATEX/IECEx. Each display needs its own 24 Vdc power supply. The Display Router Box takes four VGA and four RS232 inputs at +24 Vdc and must be located within 6 m of each connected rack.

Key Features

The Bently Nevada 3500/94M datasheet describes the following capabilities:

  • Display of all 3500 system data, event lists, alarm and OK status from a single module.
  • Up to nine custom screens, grouped by machine train and configured in the rack software.
  • Default bar graph screens for 1X vibration values and proximity probe gap voltages.
  • 10-inch hazardous-location-certified or 15-inch Class 1 Division 2 touch screen displays.
  • Front-mount option that powers and drives a 10-inch display from the module front port.
  • Display Router Box to share one display across up to four racks.
  • Single-mode fiber KVM extenders for display distances up to 10 km.
  • CSA/NRTL/C Class I Division 2 and multi CSA/ATEX/IECEx approval options.

Industrial Applications

A local display is useful wherever a 3500 rack sits in a field auxiliary room, a turbine package enclosure or a compressor house that is not continuously staffed. With the Bently Nevada 3500/94M fitted, an operator or technician walking past can see alarms, channel values and probe gaps on a touch screen instead of reading front-panel LEDs or connecting a laptop. Gas turbine packages at power stations, compressor stations on gas pipelines, and offshore or remote wellsite facilities in Oman are typical uses, and the hazardous-location 10-inch display allows mounting close to the machine where the area classification requires it.

For multi-rack plants, the Bently Nevada 3500/94M router box option lets one screen in the local control room cycle between up to four racks, and fiber KVM extension brings the image to a central control building several kilometres away. Because the Bently Nevada 3500/94M depends on the Bently Nevada 3500/22M Transient Data Interface family, our engineers check that module and its firmware first. Racks are typically fitted with the 3500/15 AC/DC Power Supply Module and monitors such as the 3500/40M Proximitor Monitor. Seven Star LLC supports projects in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah with option selection and cable planning for the Bently Nevada 3500/94M across Oman and the GCC.

About brand
Since 1961 Bently Nevada, of Minden, Nevada, USA, has been closely tied to two things: the eddy current proximity probe and the rack-based machinery protection system. The 3500 rack is found on turbines and compressors in most large process plants. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier of Bently Nevada 3500 monitor modules, interface and communication modules, proximity probes, accelerometers and velocity transducers for operators in Oman and the GCC, with every item matched to the full part number.

Bently Nevada 3500 modules and transducers

The listed 3500 modules include the 3500/20 Rack Interface Module, the 3500/50M Tachometer, the 3500/61 Temperature and 3500/62 Process Variable monitors, the 3500/64M Dynamic Pressure monitor, the 3500/44M for aeroderivative gas turbines and the 3500/46M Hydro monitor. Reciprocating compressor monitoring is covered by the 3500/70M, 3500/72M and 3500/77M. The 3500/92 Communication Gateway and 3500/94M display link the rack to the control system. Transducers include the 3300 XL proximity probe system, the 330400 accelerometer and the 190501 Velomitor CT velocity transducer. The manufacturer's newer platform, Orbit 60, is offered as the modernization path for 3500 racks, and System 1 software handles diagnostics.

Where Bently Nevada vibration monitoring is used

Steam and gas turbines, generators, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, large pumps, hydro units and cooling tower fans in oil and gas, power generation, petrochemical and mining plants are the usual machines. Measurements include radial vibration, thrust position, speed, phase, differential expansion, bearing temperature, rod position and cylinder pressure.

Ordering Bently Nevada parts: what we need

Send the complete part number with every option field, for example 330103-00-05-10-01-00 for a probe or the 3500 module number with its option dashes, plus the matching I/O module number. For probe systems state probe series, system length and the hazardous area approval. A photo of the label avoids transcription errors, and for rack modules the firmware revision is useful.
