Beamex FB660 Field Temperature Dry Block | 50 to 660 C
Description
Beamex FB660 field temperature dry block, 50 °C to 660 °C
The Beamex FB660 is a portable temperature dry block for calibrating temperature sensors in the field. It covers 50 °C to 660 °C at 23 °C ambient, weighs 7.7 kg and uses dual-zone control for good stability and uniformity. It belongs to the FB series, whose other members are the FB150 and FB350.
The name decodes simply: FB is the field block series and 660 is the upper limit of the range in °C. An R suffix (FB660R) denotes a model with an internal reference thermometer and a connection for an external reference sensor. This page covers the FB660 as listed in the manufacturer’s series data.

How the FB660 dry block calibrates sensors
A dry block heats a metal insert to a controlled temperature and holds it steady. Sensors such as RTDs, thermocouples and thermowell-less probes are placed in drilled holes of the insert and compared with a reference thermometer. Dual-zone control improves temperature uniformity along the well, so sensors of different lengths read the same temperature.
Two points drive uncertainty in practice: stability, which is how well the block holds a set point, and axial uniformity, which is the temperature difference along the immersion depth. The table shows both are quoted at several points, so choose the check temperatures that match your process and use the figures when you build an uncertainty budget.
Inserts and accessories for the FB660
The FB660 uses inserts to match the sensor diameter. The manufacturer lists the MH1 multihole insert (reference hole plus metric holes of 4, 6, 8 and 10 mm and a quarter-inch hole), the MH2 multihole insert (quarter-inch, 2 x 3 mm, 2 x 4 mm and 6 mm), a blank insert for custom drilling and special inserts on request. Standard accessories are a power cord, RS-232 cable, user guide, accredited calibration certificate and tongs for insert removal. A transport case is optional.
For reference measurements, Beamex offers smart reference PRT probes such as RPRT-660-300 (max 660 °C, 300 mm straight) and RPRT-660-230A (230 mm before a 90 degree bend), which work with R models of the block.
Selecting between FB150, FB350 and FB660
| Model | Range at 23 °C | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| FB150 | −25 °C to 150 °C | 8.16 kg |
| FB350 | 33 °C to 350 °C | 7.3 kg |
| FB660 | 50 °C to 660 °C | 7.7 kg |
Choose the FB660 where sensors must be checked up to several hundred degrees, such as steam, flue gas and furnace-side thermocouples. For low-temperature checks on cooling water or refrigeration, the FB150 is the better fit.
Using the FB660 in the field
Let the block reach the set point and settle before recording readings, and place sensors to the full immersion depth so the tip sits in the zone of best uniformity. Use the insert with the closest hole size to the sensor, because loose fits slow the heat transfer. Start low and step upward, and always cool the block below a safe handling temperature before packing it.
At 660 °C, the surfaces are hot enough to cause burns and ignite materials. Place the block on a stable, non-flammable surface with space around it and never use it in a hazardous area unless the manufacturer’s documentation allows it.
Typical applications of the FB660 in Oman and the GCC
Calibration teams in power stations, refineries, gas plants, desalination units and petrochemical sites use field dry blocks to verify temperature loops on site, avoiding the time and risk of shipping instruments to a lab. High ambient temperatures in the Gulf matter: the block is specified for 0 °C to 50 °C operation, and accuracy figures are valid for 13 °C to 33 °C, so work in shaded, air-conditioned or sheltered areas where possible.

About brand
Beamex is a Finnish maker of calibration equipment and software for process instruments. Four calibration technicians founded the company in 1975 because they could not find the equipment they wanted; their first product was a voltage and current simulator, and the first factory opened in 1977. Beamex is headquartered in Pietarsaari (Jakobstad), Finland, and supplies process industries in more than 100 countries.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Beamex documenting calibrators, temperature dry blocks, pressure controllers, calibration pumps and pressure modules for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Equipment is quoted against the model and the pressure or temperature ranges required.

Where Beamex equipment is used
Instrument workshops and maintenance teams in oil and gas, refining, petrochemicals, power, water and pharmaceuticals use Beamex calibrators to verify transmitters, switches, gauges and temperature sensors. Documenting calibrators send results to calibration software, which keeps the audit trail required by quality systems and custody transfer metering procedures. Intrinsically safe models are used for in-situ calibration in classified areas.
Ordering Beamex equipment: what we need
State the model and the options you need: internal and external pressure ranges, temperature range, communication protocols (HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA), Ex approval, and whether an accredited calibration certificate is required. For spare modules and pumps send the serial number of the calibrator they will be used with, so compatibility can be confirmed.
