Brand:

Beamex PGC Pressure and Vacuum Calibration Hand Pump

Description

One field pump for both gauge pressure and vacuum

The Beamex PGC is a hand-operated calibration pump that generates either pressure or vacuum with air as the medium, covering -0.95 to 35 bar (-13.7 to 510 psi). A selector on the pump head switches between pressure and vacuum, so a technician can check a transmitter, gauge or switch on both sides of atmospheric with one tool. A fine adjustment valve trims the generated pressure to the exact test point, and a release valve vents the system when the test is done.

The PGC is used together with a pressure calibrator or reference gauge, such as the Beamex MC6 or MC2 with an internal or external pressure module; the pump creates the pressure and the calibrator measures it.

Using the stroke length setting

The PGC has an adjustable stroke length. A long stroke moves more air per squeeze and reaches the target quickly in larger test volumes; a short stroke makes it easier to reach the upper end of the range by hand. In practice, keep the test volume small with short hoses, check fittings for leaks before recording readings, and allow a short settling time after pumping, since air heats when compressed and the pressure drifts slightly as it cools.

Where it sits in the Beamex PG pump range

Beamex lists five PG calibration pumps in the current brochure, so the right one follows from the range and medium needed:

Model Type Pressure range
PGM Hand pump, air 0 to 20 bar / 0 to 300 psi
PGC Hand pump, air, pressure and vacuum -0.95 to 35 bar / -13.7 to 510 psi
PGHH Hydraulic hand pump 0 to 700 bar / 0 to 10,000 psi
PGPH Pneumatic table pump -0.95 to 140 bar / -13.7 to 2000 psi
PGL Low-pressure screw pump, air -400 to +400 mbar / -160 to 160 iwc

Documents and quotation

The attached Beamex PG pump brochure (April 2025) gives the specifications of all five models. When requesting a quotation, state the pump model, the pressure fittings or hoses needed for your instruments and whether a hard carrying case is required. Other field calibration equipment is listed under Portable Test and Measurement.

About brand
Calibration equipment and software are the only things Beamex makes. Founded in 1975 in Pietarsaari, Finland, the company supplies the field calibrators that instrument technicians carry to check transmitters, switches and temperature sensors. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists Beamex MC6, MC6-Ex, MC4 and MC2 calibrators, the MB metrology temperature block and the ePG electric pressure pump and controller.

Beamex calibrators and accessories listed here

The handheld calibrators differ mainly in scope:
  • MC6: advanced field calibrator and communicator, the current model
  • MC6-Ex: the intrinsically safe version for hazardous areas
  • MC4: documenting process calibrator, discontinued by Beamex in May 2023
  • MC2: hand-held process calibrator, discontinued in May 2023
For both retired models Beamex names the MC6 as the recommended replacement. Two items complete a calibration setup. The MB metrology temperature block is a dry block built in four models, MB140, MB155, MB425 and MB700, which together cover -45 to +700 °C. The ePG is a battery-operated electric pump and controller for about -0.85 to 20 bar, usable with any pressure calibrator.

Where Beamex calibrators are used

Any plant with a calibration program is a user: oil and gas facilities, power stations, water utilities, pharmaceutical and food plants across the GCC. A documenting calibrator stores the as-found and as-left results of each test, so they can be transferred to calibration software instead of being written down by hand. In classified areas the MC6-Ex, certified to ATEX and IECEx, is the model to ask for.

Ordering Beamex calibrators: what we need

A Beamex calibrator is configured to order. Tell us the model, the internal pressure module ranges, any external pressure modules, the communicator protocols you need (for example HART), and the accessories: pumps, hoses, cases and test leads. For the MB state the model or the temperature range. If you need accredited calibration certificates from the manufacturer, say so at the start because it is an order option.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pressure range does the Beamex PGC cover?
From -0.95 bar vacuum up to 35 bar (-13.7 to 510 psi), using air as the pressure medium.
How do I switch between pressure and vacuum on the PGC?
A pressure/vacuum selector on the pump body sets which one the strokes generate.
What connection does the PGC have?
A G1/8 in. female output, with a pre-installed Beamex Bx G1/8 in. male fitting for Beamex 40 bar (600 psi) hoses.
What comes with the PGC?
Beamex lists a 40 bar T-hose set, a pressure fitting set for 40 bar hoses and a hard carrying case.
Can the PGC calibrate a 100 bar transmitter?
No. Its maximum is 35 bar. For pneumatic ranges up to 140 bar Beamex offers the PGPH table pump, and the PGHH for hydraulic work.
