Ecom Smart-Ex 03 DZ1 Selection Notes

The Pepperl+Fuchs datasheet for the Smart-Ex 03 DZ1 lists a Qualcomm Snapdragon QCM6490 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Storage cannot be expanded with an SD card, so the 128 GB figure is the working limit for offline data. The phone runs Android 15, and the manufacturer commits to security updates every 90 days until October 2030.

For hazardous-area use the device carries the ATEX marking II 2G Ex ia IIC T4 Gb and II 2D Ex ia IIIC T135 °C Db, with an IECEx certificate to the same protection level. The certified ambient range is -20 to +60 °C, which should be checked against summer surface temperatures on site.

The unit weighs 400 g and measures 84 × 172 mm. It has a 4400 mAh Li-Ion battery and is supplied with battery, charger, USB cable, screwdriver and documentation. Charging is through USB Type-C or through contact pads in an optional docking station. A camera-only variant exists in which telephone functions and Wi-Fi are disabled by software.

About brand
Phones and tablets that may be carried into explosive atmospheres are the specialty of Ecom Instruments, founded in 1986 in Assamstadt, Germany. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists the Ecom Smart-Ex 03 DZ1 5G smartphone and the Ecom Tab-Ex 03 DZ1 tablet, both for Zone 1/21, and sources other Ecom intrinsically safe phones, tablets and handhelds on request.

Ecom devices listed here

The Smart-Ex 03 is a 5G smartphone and the Tab-Ex 03 is a tablet. The letters DZ1 in both names mark the version certified for Zone 1/21 areas. An operator can therefore use the same kind of mobile device in the process area as in the office: taking photos for inspection reports, scanning tags and calling the control room.

Where Ecom mobile devices are used

Refineries, gas plants, chemical sites, tank farms and offshore platforms across the GCC issue these devices to operators and maintenance crews. The deciding factor is always the area classification. A device must carry a certificate that covers the zone, gas or dust group and temperature class of the place where it will be used.

Ordering Ecom devices: what we need

State the exact model and version (for example Smart-Ex 03 DZ1), the hazardous area classification, the certification scheme your site accepts, the regional network variant, and accessories such as chargers and spare batteries. Accessories for Ex devices are certified items too, so list them by part number where you can.
