A compact 11th Gen Core controller with serial ports for plant networks

The Axiomtek eBOX630A is a fanless embedded computer using the 11th Generation Intel Core (Tiger Lake UP3) quad-core processor, offered in i7, i5 and i3 versions. Its character is the combination of three 2.5 GbE ports and four serial ports in a 250 x 170 x 60 mm case, which suits gateways, data loggers and machine controllers that talk to both Ethernet and legacy RS-232 or RS-485 equipment.

Triple display is possible with two HDMI outputs and one DisplayPort++. Power comes in through a Phoenix connector accepting 9 to 48 VDC, wider than the usual 9 to 36 V, which helps on 48 V telecom-style supplies. Two swappable drive bays on the front allow storage to be changed without opening the chassis.

Which eBOX630A version to pick

The three order codes differ only in processor. The i7 and i5 versions carry Intel Iris Xe graphics according to the feature list, which matters when three displays are driven. The i3 version is the lower-cost choice for headless gateways where graphics are irrelevant. Memory, drives and the Wi-Fi or LTE module are ordered separately.

Optional accessories in the datasheet include wall-mount and DIN-rail kits, a 24 V 120 W adapter, and a PoE module kit that needs the 24 V 230 W adapter. Choosing PoE lowers the maximum operating temperature to +50 C.

Points to check before requesting a quote

Confirm the processor level, the number of serial ports required in RS-422 or RS-485 mode (COM1 and COM2 only), whether PoE is needed, and the airflow available in the cabinet, because the temperature rating assumes airflow. Note that the printed dimension line in the datasheet reads 250 x 17 x 60 mm; the drawing on the last page shows a 170 mm depth, which is the value used here.

The eBOX line covers compact fanless computers with wide DC input, from small Alder Lake-N units to LGA1700 systems with MXM graphics.
