Pepperl+Fuchs KFA6-ER-2.W.LB 2-Channel Conductive Switch Amp

Description

KFA6-ER-2.W.LB two-channel conductive switch amplifier, 230 V AC

The KFA6-ER-2.W.LB puts two independent conductive level channels in one 20 mm housing. Each channel supplies AC to its own electrodes and drives its own changeover relay, which allows two tanks or two level points to be handled by one module on a 230 V AC supply.

The code reads: KFA6 for the 230 V AC range, ER for electrode relay, 2 for two channels, W for the wide sensitivity range and LB for lead-breakage monitoring. Compared with KFA6-ER-1.W.LB, it has no separate fault relay, because both relays serve the two channels.

Seven Star LLC supplies this module in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

How the two channels of the KFA6-ER-2.W.LB work together

Each channel works like a stand-alone electrode relay: AC measuring voltage, a sensitivity threshold and a relay that energizes when the liquid bridges the electrodes. You can use the two channels for two tanks, or use one channel for high-level alarm and the other for low-level alarm on the same vessel.

The shared DIP switches and potentiometers let you tune sensitivity, delay and lead break monitoring. With monitoring on, a broken electrode wire de-energizes the relay, so the connected pump stops or the alarm sounds.

System fit and related parts

The KFA6-ER-2.W.LB saves one module when two level points are needed in a 230 V AC panel. Where separate fault output is required, the KFA6-ER-1.W.LB provides it with its second relay. For 24 V DC panels, compare the KFD2-ER-1.W.LB, and check approvals on its own datasheet before using electrodes in a classified zone.

Selection and ordering checklist for the KFA6-ER-2.W.LB

  • Two electrode sets within 1 to 150 kΩ of liquid resistance.
  • Logic for each channel: min/max or on/off.
  • Delay time per application.
  • 230 V AC supply availability.
  • Safe-area use only; there is no Ex data in the datasheet.
  • Relay load below 2 A.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the KFA6-ER-2.W.LB

Wire the two electrode sets to terminals 1 to 3 and 4 to 6, fit one 430 kΩ resistor per channel if lead break monitoring is used, set sensitivity and delay, and then fill and empty the tank to prove switching.

Label each channel at the front label space. Clean electrodes periodically and re-check the sensitivity after any change in liquid.

Check that the relay load stays within 2 A and that inductive loads such as contactor coils are fitted with suppression, since arcing contacts shorten relay life. Keep a spare module available for critical pump stations so a failed unit can be exchanged in minutes.

Choosing between one-channel and two-channel versions

The two-channel KFA6-ER-2.W.LB halves rail space per point and costs less per channel, but both channels share the same supply and housing, so a module failure takes out two level points. Critical protection functions such as dry-run protection and overflow protection are often placed on separate modules.

The single-channel version offers a fault relay for lead breakage that can be wired as a separate alarm, which the two-channel model does not.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

In Oman and the GCC the KFA6-ER-2.W.LB suits twin sump pits, duplex pump stations, cooling tower basins and chemical dosing tanks where both a pump start and a high-level alarm are required from one module. In coastal plants, remember that seawater and brine have much lower resistance than fresh water, so the sensitivity potentiometer is usually set toward the low-conductivity end only for demineralized or condensate tanks. Test with the actual liquid during commissioning and record the setting in the maintenance file.

Site conditions in Oman for the KFA6-ER-2.W.LB

Control cabinets in Gulf plants often run hot, because many sit in outdoor kiosks or in rooms where air conditioning is not always reliable. Before you finalise the KFA6-ER-2.W.LB, check the permitted ambient range and any derating stated by the manufacturer against the real temperature inside your panel, and leave the recommended spacing around the device so that heat can escape. Long cable runs between the field and the marshalling cabinet are common on large sites, so confirm the signal types, wiring limits and earthing arrangement early in the design.

It also helps to standardise on a small number of part numbers across a project. Keeping a few spare KFA6-ER-2.W.LB units on site in Oman shortens recovery time after a fault, and documenting configuration settings makes replacement faster for the maintenance team.

About brand

Pepperl+Fuchs is a German manufacturer of industrial sensors and explosion protection equipment, founded in 1945 in Mannheim by Walter Pepperl and Ludwig Fuchs as a radio repair shop. Defective transformers led them into manufacturing, and the company developed its first proximity switch in the late 1950s. Pepperl+Fuchs is headquartered in Mannheim and is a pioneer of intrinsically safe electrical equipment for hazardous areas.

Seven Star LLC lists Pepperl+Fuchs sensors, isolated barriers, power supplies and hazardous-area mobile devices, and supplies them to instrument and automation teams in Oman by exact model designation.

Where Pepperl+Fuchs equipment is used

Isolated barriers sit between field instruments in Zone 0 or Zone 1 and the DCS or safety system in refineries, gas plants and chemical works. NAMUR sensors report valve position and machine states in classified areas. Photoelectric sensors and LiDAR scanners work in conveying, packaging, warehousing and vehicle guidance. Ex-rated tablets and phones are carried on operator rounds and maintenance jobs.

Ordering Pepperl+Fuchs parts: what we need

Send the complete model designation as printed on the device, including every suffix; a single letter can change the supply voltage or the output type. Add the part number if the label shows one. For barriers, tell us the field device and signal type, the number of channels and whether the safety loop needs a SIL-assessed module. For mobile devices, state the zone or division and the regional radio version.
