WIKA PGT23.100 intelliGAUGE Pressure Gauge with 4-20 mA Output

Description

WIKA PGT23.100 intelliGAUGE: stainless steel pressure gauge with electrical output, NS 100 and 160

The WIKA PGT23.100 and its 160 mm sibling PGT23.160 combine a mechanical safety pressure gauge with an electronic output signal in one instrument. The Bourdon tube and pointer give a local reading that needs no power, while an electronic angle encoder behind the dial turns the pointer position into 4 … 20 mA (or other variants) for the control room. WIKA calls the concept intelliGAUGE. The data sheet covers the PGT23 with a stainless steel Bourdon tube and the PGT26 with Monel 400 wetted parts. Seven Star LLC supplies the PGT23.100 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page explains the options so the RFQ can name a complete, correct version.

How the PGT23.100 works

A fully welded Bourdon tube measuring system rotates the pointer shaft in proportion to pressure. A non-contact electronic angle encoder, of a type described by WIKA as proven in safety-critical automotive applications, reads the shaft angle, so the signal path has no wear and no friction. From the angle the electronics generate a pressure-proportional output. The measuring span of the output follows the mechanical scale automatically, so the full scale corresponds to the full electrical signal, and no configuration is needed on site (plug and play).

Because the mechanical display continues to work if the supply is lost, the instrument can be read securely even in a power failure. WIKA states that the PGT23 fulfils the safety requirements of the relevant standards for on-site indication of the operating pressure of pressure vessels, so an additional gauge on the same measuring point can be saved. It is built on a model 23x.30 high-quality stainless steel safety pressure gauge, with a solid baffle wall and blow-out back (S3 per EN 837-1).

The load limit for the current variants follows RA ≤ (supply voltage – 12 V) / 0.02 A, with a maximum of 600 Ω. Terminals 5 and 6 reset the zero point, and terminals 3 and 4 are for internal use only. A switch contact option exists per WIKA technical information IN 00.48.

For hazardous areas, the data sheet lists ATEX and IECEx optional approvals with ignition protection Ex ia IIC T6/T5/T4 Gb and Ex ia IIIB T135 °C Db, so confirm the area classification and the associated intrinsically safe barrier at RFQ stage. A pre-volume deflagration flame arrester (model 910.21) is offered for mounting to zone 0 with Ex approval.

Where the PGT23.100 fits and related WIKA models

For a 63 mm dial with the same intelliGAUGE principle WIKA lists the PGT23.063 on a separate data sheet. When local indication and switching contacts are wanted instead of an analogue output, the PGS23.100 switchGAUGE is the corresponding product. The plain mechanical versions are the 232.30 and 233.30 safety gauges. Pairing the instrument with a 910.11 shut-off valve, 910.12 snubber and 910.17 sealing rings is common practice.

Selection and ordering checklist for the PGT23.100

  • Nominal size 100 or 160 mm and the required measuring range.
  • PGT23 (316L) or PGT26 (Monel 400) wetted parts, according to the medium.
  • Output variant: 4 … 20 mA standard, hazardous-area loop, 0 … 20 mA or 0 … 10 V.
  • Case filling for vibration: unfilled (adjustable pointer) or silicone oil M50.
  • Temperature of medium and ambient, with the matching case and filling options.
  • Process connection, restrictor, and whether oil- and grease-free or silicone-free is needed.
  • Ex approval and the cable gland and terminal arrangement.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the PGT23.100

Mount the gauge so the blow-out back is free and nothing is stored behind the case. Wire the loop with the correct polarity, then power the instrument and compare the electrical value with the pointer at zero and at one other point. On unfilled instruments the pointer can be adjusted at zero using the adjustable pointer; filled instruments have no zero setting. The QR code on the dial links to instrument-specific information such as serial number and certificates, which makes later audits quicker. At each shutdown inspect the window, the cable gland seal and the case for signs of leakage.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

The data sheet lists chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, power generation, and water and wastewater as typical fields. In Oman and the Gulf the PGT23.100 suits pressure vessels, separators, pump discharge lines and utility headers where the plant wants both a local reading that survives a power loss and a signal back to the DCS or PLC. The stainless build copes with coastal air and dust, and the IP66 version is relevant to wash-down and sand-laden sites.

The WIKA model number tells you the build. In 232.50, the first digit 2 means stainless steel wetted parts, the second digit 3 means a liquid-fillable case, and ".50" is the case style. The 111 series uses copper alloy wetted parts and suits water and air. Where the medium is corrosive, very hot or would block the gauge, a diaphragm seal such as the 990.27 keeps it away from the Bourdon tube. For temperature, a thermowell like the TW10 lets you remove the sensor without opening the process.

Where WIKA instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, WIKA gauges, transmitters and thermometers are used in oil and gas, refining and petrochemical plants, power and desalination, water networks, district cooling and HVAC, and on skids and machines from OEMs.
