Bently Nevada 330701-00-30-10-02-00 3300 XL 11 mm Probe

Description

330701-00-30-10-02-00: 3300 XL 11 mm proximity probe, 1/2-20 UNF, 3.0 in case, 1.0 m

The Bently Nevada 330701-00-30-10-02-00 is a 3300 XL 11 mm eddy-current proximity probe with a 1/2-20 UNF threaded stainless case, no armor, a 3.0 in overall case length and a 1.0 m integral cable ending in a miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector. The large 11 mm tip gives the long linear range used for axial thrust position, rod drop and similar measurements.

The number follows the 330701-AA-BB-CC-DD-EE pattern: unthreaded length 00, case length 30, total length 10, connector option 02 and agency option 00. Because the probe is only 1.0 m long, it is normally completed with a 330730 extension cable to reach a 5.0 m or 9.0 m Proximitor Sensor.

How the 330701-00-30-10-02-00 senses the shaft

The probe tip holds a coil that is driven by the Proximitor Sensor through the coaxial cable. When a conductive target approaches, eddy currents in the target change the coil loading, and the sensor turns that change into a voltage proportional to gap. The 11 mm tip is moulded in PPS using the TipLoc method and attached to the cable with the CableLoc design, which the datasheet rates at 330 N pull strength. The probe has no electronics of its own, so the whole accuracy statement applies only to a matched 3300 XL 11 mm Proximitor Sensor and extension cable.

330701-00-30-10-02-00 in a 5 m or 9 m system

With a 1.0 m probe, the extension cable must make up the rest of the system length. The 330730 extension cable is offered at 4.0 m (code 040) for a 5.0 m system and 8.0 m (code 080) for a 9.0 m system, in standard, armored, FluidLoc or protector-equipped forms. Five-metre probes cannot be used on a 9 m sensor, so the 1.0 m probe gives flexibility to match either sensor length.

Option 02 means a standard cable and a ClickLoc connector without a connector protector. The datasheet recommends connector protectors on all installations, so plan to buy protector kit 40113-02 or protector pairs 40180-02 if the cable-to-probe joint will see humidity or oil. The 02 option also differs from 01, which ships with a protector installed, and from 11 and 12, which use FluidLoc cable.

Selection and ordering checklist for 330701-00-30-10-02-00

  • Confirm the mounting hole is 1/2-20 UNF and deep enough for a 3.0 in case
  • Confirm the lock nut size (3/4 inch) and wrench clearance
  • Confirm 1.0 m cable plus extension equals 5.0 or 9.0 m for the Proximitor Sensor
  • Decide on connector protectors for the cable-to-extension joint
  • Check the maximum thread engagement of 0.750 in so the probe does not bind
  • Check the operating temperature at the probe tip against the -52 to +177 °C rating
  • Confirm that the 11 mm range suits the application

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the 330701-00-30-10-02-00

Install the probe by threading it into the bracket or machine port to the required gap and tightening the lock nut. Recommended case torque is 15.2 N·m (133 in·lb); do not exceed 45.2 N·m. Use the safety wire holes in the lock nut where the specification calls for locked probes.

Route the cable with a minimum bend radius of 25.4 mm, connect the extension cable hand-tight until the ClickLoc connectors click, and fit protectors. Set the gap at about 2.5 mm (100 mils) as the starting point, then verify the output when the shaft is moved.

  • Do not expose the probe below -34 °C if pressure sealing is critical
  • Keep spare probes in their packaging to protect the connector
  • Tip spacing guidelines: 64 mm axial and 58 mm radial on a 76.2 mm shaft
  • Record gap voltage for trending
  • Probe leakage is not covered by service replacement according to the datasheet notes

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.

Where Bently Nevada systems are used

In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.

Ordering and replacement: what we need

For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.

01What does 330701-00-30-10-02-00 mean?
It follows the 330701-AA-BB-CC-DD-EE pattern: fully threaded (00), 3.0 in case (30), 1.0 m total length (10), ClickLoc connector with standard cable (02) and no agency approval (00).
02What thread does the 330701 probe have?
The 330701 family is a 3300 XL 11 mm probe with a 1/2-20 UNF thread and no armor. The armored version is 330702.
03Does the 330701-00-30-10-02-00 need an extension cable?
With a 1.0 m probe, yes: a 4.0 m 330730 extension makes a 5.0 m system and an 8.0 m extension makes a 9.0 m system.
04What is the temperature rating?
The probe is rated -52 to +177 °C for operating and storage temperature, and exposure below -34 °C may cause premature failure of the pressure seal.
05What is the linear range with a 330780 sensor?
A 3300 XL 11 mm system has a 4.0 mm (160 mil) linear range with a scale factor of 3.94 V/mm (100 mV/mil) and a recommended gap of 2.5 mm.
