Bently Nevada 288055-01 3500/22M TDI Module with USB Cable

Description

Bently Nevada 288055-01 standard 3500/22M TDI module with USB cable

The Bently Nevada 288055-01 is listed in the 3500/22M datasheet spares table as the “Standard Transient Data Interface Module with USB cable”. It is a complete standard-type TDI main module for the 3500 machinery protection rack, supplied together with the isolated USB cable that the manufacturer specifies for configuring the module from a laptop. The module goes into Slot 1, next to the power supplies, and an Ethernet I/O module is fitted behind it.

Seven Star LLC offers this spare to maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC who want the module and the correct service cable in one item rather than assembling the kit from separate numbers.

Where a row gives no figure for the kit itself, the 3500/22M datasheet values for the standard TDI are shown.

Why the USB cable matters

The front panel of the 3500/22M has a USB-B configuration port. The datasheet is explicit that the specific cable 123M4610 is needed to preserve isolation between the chassis and ground, and that the computer connected to it should be running on battery power rather than mains ground. Otherwise a ground loop can form between the laptop and the rack. This is the practical reason to buy the module with its cable: field engineers often arrive with a generic USB lead and an AC-powered laptop, and ground-loop noise is a poor way to find out.

The USB port is used for configuration or for retrieving machinery data. For continuous data collection the module relies on the Ethernet link through the I/O module.

How 288055-01 differs from 138607-01

Both numbers describe a standard-type 3500/22M. The 138607-01 is the module on its own, while 288055-01 is documented by the manufacturer as the same standard TDI packaged with the USB cable. If your stores already hold a 123M4610 cable you may only need the module alone; if not, the kit saves a separate line item. Always check the label on the board you receive against your own stored configuration, since the dynamic data enabling disk, I/O module and agency approval are ordered separately.

System role and compatible parts

The TDI replaces the combined function of the 3500/20 Rack Interface Module and an external communication processor. It collects steady-state and transient data from M-series monitors such as the 3500/40M and 3500/42M and sends it to System 1 or to the 3500 configuration software. Compatible rear modules are 146031-01 (copper), 146031-02 (fiber), and the gold-plated 146031-03 and 146031-04. Network accessories are covered by a separate manufacturer datasheet, and the 3500 Hardening Guide describes network requirements.

Selection and ordering checklist for 288055-01

  • Check that your rack is an M-series system and that the monitors installed are listed as compatible with the 3500/22.
  • Choose the I/O module before ordering: copper or fiber, standard or gold-plated relay contacts.
  • Decide whether the dynamic data enabling disk is required and how many steady-state and transient points you need.
  • Confirm that a battery-powered laptop is available for USB configuration.
  • Check agency approval requirements for the area where the rack sits.

Installation and commissioning

Install with the rack powered down only if your site procedure requires it; 3500 modules are designed for hot insertion, but a TDI swap affects data collection and rack addressing, so plan it for a quiet period. Set the address switch to the previous value, move the keylock to PROGRAM, connect the USB cable from a battery-powered computer and load the saved configuration. Return the key to RUN when the CONFIG OK LED confirms a valid configuration. Keep the old module for fault analysis until communications with the host have been confirmed over several hours.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Typical homes for this spare are the 3500 racks on gas compressors, generator sets and boiler feed pumps in oil and gas facilities, independent power and water plants and petrochemical complexes. These plants often keep one spare TDI per site because the rack cannot send data to the diagnostic software without it. Dust and heat in remote locations make sealed storage of spare electronics a sensible practice.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.

Where Bently Nevada systems are used

In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.

Ordering and replacement: what we need

For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in 288055-01?
The datasheet lists it as the standard Transient Data Interface module with a USB cable. The cable part number given in the same table is 123M4610.
Why is a special USB cable required?
The manufacturer states this cable maintains isolation between chassis and ground. Using the wrong cable, or a computer connected to mains ground, can create a ground loop.
Does 288055-01 include the I/O module?
No. An Ethernet I/O module such as 146031-01 or 146031-02 is ordered separately and fitted in the rear slot behind the TDI.
Is it the same electrically as 138607-01?
Both are described as standard-type 3500/22M modules. The 288055-01 listing adds the USB cable. Check the board label against your stored configuration.
Where does the TDI sit in the rack?
It always occupies Slot 1, the full-height slot next to the power supplies, with its I/O module in the matching rear slot.
