Brand: Camlok
Camlok LJ Non-Marking Plate Clamp, Leather or Rubber Pads
Description
Lifting plate without leaving a mark: the LJ non-marking clamp
The Camlok LJ is a vertical plate clamp built to lift, turn and transport plate without marking or indenting the surface. It is intended for structural steel, stainless steel, iron, timber and aluminium plate and also for steel plates with extremely hard surfaces. Instead of teeth it uses pads, offered either as leather or rubber, chosen according to the material surface.
Two sizes are listed: the LJ500 for 25 to 500 kg and plate up to 10 mm, and the LJ1500 for 150 to 1500 kg and plate up to 20 mm. Each is catalogued with a leather and a rubber version with different article numbers. The product page states a 4:1 safety factor, 180 degree lifting capability and suitability for moist or dirty surfaces, including submerged plasma cutting.
What the LJ is designed to do
- Leather or rubber lined pads that protect stainless, aluminium and polished finishes
- Works on plates with a surface hardness over 300 Brinell
- Turns a plate from horizontal to vertical and back (180 degrees)
- Listed as tolerant of moisture and dirt, including submerged plasma cutting
- Design safety factor 4:1 and product group I2
- Not suitable for use with a two-leg chain sling (manual)

Conditions of use
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Plate suitability | Structural steel, stainless steel, iron and aluminium; plate must have enough surface roughness, be flat and parallel |
| Surface | Free of oil, grease or other liquid; highly polished plate may not be suitable |
| Minimum load | Plate weight must exceed the minimum load stamped on the clamp |
| Slings | Not suitable for a two-leg chain sling; for long plates use two clamps and a lifting beam |
| Pad care | No solvents on jaw surfaces; contaminated jaws must be replaced with genuine parts |
| Inspection | Every 1 to 4 weeks depending on use |
Leather or rubber, 500 or 1500
Camlok says the pad type depends on the surface of the material. The LJ500 and LJ1500 differ in size only in the sheet, so the choice is between them by plate thickness (10 or 20 mm) and by load, then between the two pad materials. If you are unsure which pad suits your plate, the manufacturer asks buyers to contact its sales team for advice, and so do we before quoting.
Remember that no fitting with a two-leg chain sling is allowed for the LJ, so a pair on a sling is not an option; the manual specifies one clamp on the plate centre of gravity or two clamps with a lifting beam for long plates. The catalogue weights are per clamp: 3.5 kg for the LJ500 and 12 kg for the LJ1500.
Fitting, lifting and caring for the pads
Start by confirming the plate surface is free of grease, standing water, oil, scale, paint or film. With the sling slack, turn the lever clockwise to lock the jaws open, position the clamp over the centre of gravity right into the mouth, set the fixed jaw on the plate and turn the lever anticlockwise to LOCK. Lifting from horizontal, or lowering with the moving jaw on top, can make the fixed pad tilt; putting the fixed pad on top avoids it.
Pad care differs from a toothed clamp. Degrease carefully without contaminating the jaw faces, brush away grit with a stiff brush, lubricate moving parts with soft grease but keep it off the pads, and check the pad bond for tearing. The manual forbids solvents on the jaw surfaces, because they can affect the bond between pad material and metal, and says contaminated jaws must be replaced with genuine Camlok parts. The LJ spares list gives shell plates (pair) N4300008467 for the LJ500 and N4300002457 for the LJ1500, and screws removed in a repair are refitted with Studlock.
Stainless, aluminium and finished plate
The LJ is the clamp for stainless fabrication, aluminium plate, painted or polished steel and hard plate where teeth would scar the surface, such as stainless tank workshops and plasma or water-bath cutting tables. For other materials or special conditions such as high humidity, salt, caustic or alkaline air and temperature extremes, consult the supplier or manufacturer. Oil or coolant on the pads is the biggest practical risk, so keep them clean and dry.

About brand
Camlok is a British manufacturer of plate clamps and lifting clamps, based at the Sealand Industrial Estate in Chester. It started on 6 February 1958 as Deeweld, set up by an insurance salesman and a railway clerk, and became Camlok Lifting Clamps Ltd in 1998. Since 1999 it has been part of Columbus McKinnon. Camlok clamps use a cam and jaw design that grips harder as the load increases.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Camlok clamps with the official datasheets and manuals for fabrication shops, steel stockholders and construction sites in Oman and the GCC.

Camlok product series
Vertical plate clamps include the CY hinged clamp for 1000 to 3000 kg and the heavy-duty CX hinged clamp for 150 to 10,000 kg, which lift and turn plate. The LJ clamp has leather or rubber pads for non-marking lifts. Horizontal clamps include the CH clamps used in pairs for 1000 to 20,000 kg and the THK clamp for thin sheet.
Other lifting gear includes the CG girder turning clamp, the TTR girder stacking clamp, the TRU round stock grab for pipe and bar, the SC92 beam clamp that provides a suspension point on a beam flange and the BTG clamp set for concrete pipe. Many Camlok clamps are designed with a 4:1 safety factor.
Where Camlok clamps are used
Plate handling in fabrication shops, shipyards and steel stores, girder erection and stacking, pipe and bar handling and laying concrete pipe on civil works.

FAQ
Questions about the Camlok LJ Non-Marking Plate Clamp, Leather or
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01Does the LJ mark the plate?
It is designed for lifting without marking, damaging or indenting the surface.
02What pad materials are available?
Leather and rubber lined pads, with separate article numbers for each.
03What plate thickness can the LJ take?
The LJ500 takes 0 to 10 mm and the LJ1500 takes 0 to 20 mm.
04Can I use two LJ clamps on a two-leg sling?
No. The manual says the LJ is not suitable for use with a two-leg chain sling; use a lifting beam for long plates.
05How should the pads be cleaned?
Brush off grit and degrease carefully; do not use solvents, because they can affect the bond of the pad material to the jaw.
