Paxton 010-296 Paxton10 Slimline Multi-Format Bluetooth Reader

Description

010-296 is the Paxton10 slimline reader: a 48 mm-wide mullion-mount reader that reads Paxton, MIFARE, HID Prox and EM tokens and has built-in Bluetooth for smart credentials, rated IP67 for external use.

A multi-format reader with Bluetooth for Paxton10 doors

The slimline reader is built to blend into interiors and fit narrow frames, with a 5 m encapsulated cable and a two-part construction. Its multi-format front end reads Paxton encrypted (13.56 MHz, AES 128-bit credential), Paxton standard (125 kHz), EM4100/02, MIFARE (UID) and HID Prox tokens at the same time; the product page adds FeliCa, NFC and DESFire CSN.

Built-in Bluetooth Low Energy talks to mobile and wearable devices in three modes printed in the datasheet: token mode up to 2 cm, touch to enter up to 1.5 m and long range up to 10 m. It uses a secure encrypted RS485 link to a Paxton10 door or video controller.

Key features as printed in the datasheet

  • Low-power sleep mode with capacitive wake-up.
  • Simple 4-wire installation; colour-coded wires connect colour for colour to the controller.
  • IP67 housing in PC+ABS, black, with a piezo buzzer; mounting is surface only and suitable for metal.
  • 5 year Paxton warranty.

Choosing a Paxton10 reader

The datasheet lists a single code, 010-296, but the product page shows other Paxton10 readers such as a keypad reader and a VR reader. The slimline reader suits door frames and mullions where space is limited. It is not for Net2 or Switch2 wiring; it needs a Paxton10 door or video controller.

Cable extension is allowed up to 100 m between controller and reader on the datasheet figure; the product page says to extend using Belden 8723 cable. Confirm the token type and Bluetooth requirements before ordering.

Mounting and wiring

The cable exits centrally from the back, which makes drilling and mounting accurate, and the product page advises avoiding mounting near other proximity readers because this affects read range. Paxton publishes a drilling template for the reader. Because it can be fixed to metal, steel door frames and mullions are acceptable.

Connect the four wires colour for colour to the Paxton10 controller reader port; a Paxton10 door controller allows up to two readers per door.

Applications

IP67 and a -35 to +66 °C range suit entrances exposed to dust and washdown, such as warehouse doors, plant entrances, car park barriers and building main doors. In strong Gulf sun, mount on the shaded side where possible, since the upper limit is +66 °C.

Selection and installation notes

Access control is designed door by door: the door type, the lock, the reader position, the exit method and the fire release all need to be settled before the equipment is chosen. Fit the unit on the secure side where the maker advises, run cable of the type and length the data sheet allows, test the lock release on power failure and fire alarm, and keep a record of the user and token set-up. Check local fire and security rules before commissioning.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
