Brand: Axis
Axis XFQ1656 Explosion-Protected Box Camera
Description
Explosion-protected 4 MP camera for Zone 1 and Division 1 areas
The Axis XFQ1656 is a network box camera built into an electropolished stainless steel housing and certified for hazardous locations. Axis lists Class I/II/III Division 1, Zone 1 and 21, gas group IIC, dust group IIIC and Ex I Mb (mining) certifications, so one camera model can cover process units, loading areas and similar sites without a separate explosion-proof enclosure. The housing has a wiper and, in the box, a washer nozzle and a swivel joint.
Inside is a 1/1.8 inch RGB CMOS sensor with an ARTPEC-8 chip and a deep learning processing unit. That allows analytics to run on the camera itself: Axis ships smoke alert, AXIS Object Analytics, AXIS Scene Metadata and AXIS Image Health Analytics with the unit, and the Object Analytics trigger conditions include PPE monitoring and hardhat detection.

Choosing the supply, cable entry and mounting
The XFQ1656 can be powered from a PoE source rated for 802.3bt Class 6 or from a 100 to 240 V AC supply, and the network link can use copper or SFP fibre. The datasheet derates the upper operating temperature from 60 degC on PoE to 55 degC on AC or SFP, so check the site maximum before choosing the supply. Cable entries are two M25 and two M20; the datasheet notes an adapter to 3/4 NPT for one part number and an Ex d armored M25 gland for another, so state the entry type and glands your installation needs.
Optional accessories listed by Axis are the TQ1001-E wall mount and the TQ1301-E pole mount and TQ1303-E corner mount, which install on the wall mount. Axis also lists an optional F0.9 lens for lower light levels; confirm availability when ordering.
Documents and quotation
The attached Axis datasheet carries the full approval list, including the INMETRO, PESO, KCs and JPEx certificates that are not repeated here. Confirm that the certificate and temperature class match the hazardous-area classification of the installation, and request the installation manual for wiring and gland requirements. For a quotation send the part number, lens option, supply type, cable entry, mounting accessories and the video management software in use. See other cameras in CCTV and security; for a PTZ explosion-proof alternative see the published SIQURA EX-PD24.
