Paxton 337-420 Entry Standard Door Entry Panel, Surface Mount

337-420 is the surface-mount version of the Paxton Entry Standard panel, an external video door-entry panel with a bell button, keypad, proximity token reader, two-way audio and a full-colour camera, powered over Ethernet.

An external entry panel that is also an access reader

Paxton describes Entry as a door-entry system that works on its own or alongside Net2 or Paxton10, and the Standard panel is its robust external unit. Each panel is associated with an Entry control unit that interfaces to the door hardware, and a visitor starts a video call with the bell button. The panel carries a back-lit keypad and LCD and a proximity reader, so a resident can use a code or a token, while installers reach the menu with an engineer code or engineer token.

The panel is finished in anthracite grey (RAL 7021 on the product page) and the datasheet gives ABS and polycarbonate as the materials. The surface-mount code 337-420 sits proud of the wall; the datasheet lists a flush-mount version (337-400) and a surface-mount version with rain hood (337-410) separately.

Surface, flush or rain hood: picking the panel code

Three codes appear in the datasheet. Choose 337-420 when the panel can stand proud of a masonry or cladding wall, 337-400 where a recess is available, and 337-410 where the entrance has no canopy and the extra rain hood is wanted. The product page links a surface-mount drilling template.

The panel does nothing alone: it needs an Entry control unit (listed on the product page as 337-727) and at least one monitor such as the Entry Standard monitor 337-280. Confirm the full set of codes with us before ordering.

Cabling and commissioning notes

Paxton states that Entry components connect with CAT5 or standard RJ45 patch cables, that PoE carries power and data on the same cable, and that the building network may be shared only with the owner permission. A shared network must support IPv6 and PoE switches. The Ethernet run is limited to 100 m, and each call needs about 1 Mb/s of multicast bandwidth.

The panel suits apartment blocks, villa compounds, staff accommodation, small offices and clinics where visitors are screened before the door opens. With IP55 or IPX5 protection and a -20 to +50 °C range it is intended for outdoor positions; in direct Gulf sun the panel face may run hotter than ambient, so shade or a north-facing position is sensible.

Selection and installation notes

Access control is designed door by door: the door type, the lock, the reader position, the exit method and the fire release all need to be settled before the equipment is chosen. Fit the unit on the secure side where the maker advises, run cable of the type and length the data sheet allows, test the lock release on power failure and fire alarm, and keep a record of the user and token set-up. Check local fire and security rules before commissioning.
