Brand:

Raytec VAR2-w8-2 VARIO2 White Light Double Panel Illuminator

Description

VAR2-w8-2 is the Raytec VARIO2 w8-2 adaptive illumination double-panel white-light illuminator: two 24-LED panels on one bracket giving 7,454 lm per luminaire and up to 254 m, on 12 to 24 V AC/DC.

Two panels that widen the beam without losing distance

The VARIO2 white-light family is built from single-panel units (w2, w4, w8, w16) and multi-panel units. In the w8-2 two w8-class panels are mounted on an adaptive illumination bracket, which Raytec calls adaptive illumination. The datasheet lists narrow-angle and wide-angle distances separately: 254 m at 10 degrees on one axis and 179 m at 20 degrees on the other, falling to 134 m at 35 degrees and 95 m at 70 degrees.

The VARIO interchangeable lens system lets installers change the holographic lens insert to match the camera, from 10 up to 180 degrees of illumination angle in the family, and Hot-spot Reduction Technology gives an elliptical, diffused beam shape. White light lets colour cameras record true colours and can act as a visible deterrent.

Key features as printed in the datasheet

  • 7,454 lm total per luminaire, 48 LEDs in two panels, 84 W consumption.
  • Power adjustment from 20 to 100 percent, in-built photocell with sensitivity adjust and following output.
  • LED status indicator and programming mode that can be disabled.
  • Advanced features via the optional VARIO remote control: timer up to 30 minutes, telemetry control, remote dimming, optional PIN.

Other multi-panel codes in the datasheet

Parameter Specification
VAR2-w2-2 / w4-2 / w4-3 1,864 lm, 3,726 lm and 5,589 lm per luminaire; 90 m, 155 m and 190 m
VAR2-w8-3 Triple panel, 11,181 lm, 311 m, 126 W

Single panel, double panel or triple panel

Pick the w8-2 when one location must cover a long approach and a wide area together, for example a gate lane plus the apron beside it. A single w8-1 (3,727 lm, 180 m, 42 W) is simpler where only one direction matters, and the w8-3 adds a third panel for 311 m and 11,181 lm at higher power.

Standard pack lenses are a 10 degree circular, a 35 x 10 degree elliptical (fitted) and a 60 x 25 degree elliptical; 80 x 30 and 120 x 50 degree lenses (codes VAR-WX-lens-8030 and VAR-WX-lens-12050, with X replaced by the size) are optional. Confirm light colour, lenses and the remote control before ordering.

Mounting, power and set-up

The adaptive illumination bracket is supplied, and the datasheet lists VUB wall and pole brackets for any VARIO illuminator. Because the unit draws 84 W on 12 to 24 V AC/DC, voltage drop matters over long cable runs; Raytec lists PSU-VAR2 supplies sized from 20 W to 150 W for groups of VARIO units, and the total load must not exceed the supply output.

Set-up of the multi-panel unit is through the VARIO remote control; the unit has a LED status indicator and the datasheet states that the remote can be disabled and a PIN set to limit access. Installation documents include the VARIO2 combined installation guide 0330-D-00018.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

White-light illuminators are used for gate and checkpoint approaches, laydown yards, truck parks, fuel forecourts and pedestrian crossings in industrial estates, where recording in colour or deterring intruders matters. In Gulf summers the +50 °C ambient limit should be checked against shade and mounting position; the datasheet gives no hazardous-area certificate for this product.

Selection and installation notes

A CCTV illuminator is selected from the camera, the distance and the width of the scene. Match the beam angle to the camera field of view, mount it close to the camera on a stable bracket, keep the lens clear of foliage and glass reflections, check the supply voltage under load and set the light level in the dark, not in daylight. Camera and illuminator should be aimed together at commissioning.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
