Sauter DSF158F001 Stainless Pressure Switch 0-25 bar SIL 2

The DSF158F001 is a Sauter pressure monitor and pressure switch with a stainless-steel pressure sensor for aggressive media. Its lower switching point is adjustable over 0 to 25 bar with an adjustable switching difference of 1.5 to 8.0 bar, and the datasheet lists SIL 2 conformity to IEC 61508, TÜV certification and ship approvals from DNV and Lloyds Register, which makes it a compact limit switch for pumps, compressors, boilers and hydraulic skids.

A sealable pressure switch with a stainless sensor

The DSB and DSF families regulate and monitor pressure in liquids, gases and vapours without auxiliary energy. The DSB uses a brass sensor for non-aggressive media; the DSF used here has a stainless-steel sensor and is the one to look at when the medium is more demanding. It is suited to compact installations, pipe mounting or wall mounting, and the setpoint and switching difference can be sealed against tampering.

Selection and ordering guide

The DSF stainless range covers 0 to 0.6 bar up to 40 bar. Select the setting range so that the working point sits in the upper part of the scale, and note that the switching difference depends slightly on the setpoint: the datasheet values are typical for the start of the range and rise by (setpoint minus range start) × 0.04.

Derived example: at a 20 bar setpoint the typical switching difference rises by (20 – 0) × 0.04 = 0.8 bar over the start-of-range value.

Installation and operation notes

• When the pressure falls below the lower change-over point the contacts switch from 1-3 to 1-2; when it rises by the switching difference the contacts return from 1-2 to 1-3.
• Sizing the load: gold-plated contacts lose their gold if the rated load is exceeded and then behave as silver contacts.
• For inductive loads fit an RC circuit: capacitance in microfarads at least equal to the operating current in amperes, resistance about equal to the coil resistance.
• Safety use requires an electrical interlock downstream and repeat function checks at least once and at most twelve times a year; the datasheet assigns duration-of-use approval beyond five years to the operator.
• Not for transport applications or altitudes above 2000 metres.
• Check fluid compatibility; permitted fluids for safety-function use are fluid group I (danger categories IV or V) and group II.

Applications in Gulf industry

Pressure switches are everywhere in oil and gas, petrochemical and water plants: pump dry-run and discharge-pressure trips, compressed-air receivers, boiler feed and steam-raising, hydraulic power units and lubrication skids. The stainless sensor and 60 bar overpressure limit of the DSF158F001 suit utility and skid duty, while the marine approvals matter for offshore support vessels. It is designed for HVAC building systems: the datasheet limits intended use to HVAC building systems, so hazardous-area or process-safety duty needs a separate manufacturer decision.
