Sauter TUC407F001 Safety Temperature Limiter 95-130 C EN 14597

The TUC407F001 is the safety temperature limiter (STB) version of the Sauter TUC universal thermostat. It has an adjustable limit between 95 and 130 degrees C, a 0.7 m capillary tube with a 76 mm sensor cartridge and a 100 mm brass thermowell, and the contact switches to the safe side if the capillary tube breaks, which is the property that qualifies an STB for safety duty on hot-water and heat-transfer plant.

A fail-safe limiter for hot-water and heating plant

A temperature limiter (TB or STB) is not a controller: once the set temperature is exceeded it latches and stays off until the temperature has fallen by at least the minimum switching difference and someone presses RESET with a tool. The datasheet states that the STB has the same functions as the TB, but the contact also switches to the safe side if the capillary tube is damaged. Because it is classified as category IV under the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU, the STB is described as suitable for safety applications.

TUC407F001 and TUC407F002 differ only in thermowell length (100 mm and 150 mm); the longer one suits thicker insulation or larger pipe diameters.

Installation and operation notes

• Temperature setpoint is changed only with a tool; the RESET button is also pressed with a tool after the temperature has fallen.
• Use temperature-resistant cables (above 90 degrees C) on the terminals.
• Fit the thermowell in the pipe or vessel and keep the sensor medium fill below 160 degrees C.
• Setpoint accuracy: the contact switches 0 to -9 K below the adjustment point on STB types.
• For inductive loads add an RC circuit: capacitance in microfarads at least the operating current in amperes, resistance about the coil resistance.
• The thermowell material (brass or stainless steel) is the operator’s responsibility to check against the fluid.

Applications in Gulf industrial and building plant

Typical STB duty is boiler flow limitation, calorifier and hot-water generator protection, heat-exchanger secondary circuits, thermal-oil and process heating skids and electric heater overtemperature cut-outs. In the Gulf this means hospitals, hotels and district-heating-style loops but also industrial hot-water systems at plants and camps. The datasheet allows the STB only within its stated scope; whether it meets a particular project or national safety rule must be confirmed with the manufacturer or the consultant before ordering.

Selection and installation notes

A safety temperature limiter is part of a safety circuit, so it should be selected against the standard and the system design. Set the limit with the sealing that the maker requires, fit the capillary sensor in a thermowell where the heat transfer is good, keep the capillary free of kinks and wire the contact in the safety chain. Test the function at commissioning and after any change.
