The ASF112F222 is a spring-return rotary actuator from Sauter for air dampers and shut-off dampers. It delivers 7 Nm of torque and holding torque, runs on 24 V~ or 24 to 48 V=, takes a 2-point signal and carries two built-in auxiliary contacts, so a fire, smoke-purge or frost-protection damper can be driven to a safe position by spring when the supply is removed.

A spring-return actuator for ventilation and shut-off dampers

Spring return matters wherever a damper has to fail to a defined position: outdoor-air dampers that must close on a fan stop, shut-off dampers in air-handling units, or smoke-extract paths. The F1xx types have no auxiliary contacts and the F2xx types add double auxiliary contacts. The last digit selects the voltage and the ASF113 is the 3-point version.

Auxiliary switches and potentiometers cannot be added later, so choose the F2xx type at order time if end-position feedback is needed.

Installation and operation notes

• The actuator plugs directly on the damper spindle and is clamped by the self-centring lever; the mounting direction sets the direction of rotation of the safety function.
• Several actuators with different torques can run in parallel on one damper group provided the supply voltage stays within tolerance.
• Operating consumption is 2.0 W, 3.0 VA for the 24 V type; at standstill it still draws 1.9 W, 2.9 VA, so allow for holding power in the transformer budget.
• Use the hex spanner supplied to turn and lock the gear unit by hand; it is released again mechanically or when the supply voltage is connected.
• The two-part housing must not be opened.
• Protect the actuator from weather when installed outside a building, as the datasheet recommends.
