Elkhart Brass X-Stream SM-1250B 1250 gpm Master Stream Nozzle

Description

A 1250 gpm monitor nozzle that adjusts under flow

The Elkhart Brass X-Stream SM-1250B is a manual master stream nozzle for fixed and portable monitors. Elkhart describes the X-Stream series as self-adjusting to variable or reduced pressure and flow so the stream keeps its reach, and the data sheet lists the SM-1250B as a constant-flow type across all stream patterns, calibrated for 75 psi (5 bar) at the inlet. Flow is 350 to 1250 gpm (1330 to 4750 LPM). The stream moves from straight jet to a 30 degree narrow fog or a 90 degree wide fog under flowing conditions using the large handles.

It is marine brass (UNS-C83600) with a satin finish as standard and an optional nickel plated finish, has a no-twist shutoff, precision cut metal teeth for the fog pattern, and can be used with water or premixed foam solution. The data sheet lists FM Approved 5511 and a five year warranty.

Elkhart notes the reach figures are engineering estimates with water only; real performance depends on wind and the water supply, and the installation must be assessed after commissioning.

Version family and choosing between them

The X-Stream range also includes the SM-1250BE with an electric motor for remote pattern control and the SM-1250HB with a hydraulic actuator, plus SM-1250BE-HL versions for hazardous locations (FM Class I Div 2 or ATEX and IECEx zones) and a gas mitigation SM-1250BE-HLGM with a 120 degree fog. The manual SM-1250B suits fixed monitors operated at the monitor, such as the Copperhead and Stingray.

Check that the available pressure reaches the 75 psi calibration point at the nozzle inlet, taking monitor friction loss into account, and that the monitor and riser can carry the reaction force at 1250 gpm. As the reach table in the data sheet is published for both the 2.5 in and 3.5 in inlet, make sure the figure you compare against matches the inlet you intend to order, because the straight stream reach differs between them.
