Pentair Aurora 411 Horizontal Single Stage Split Case Pump

Description

A horizontal single-stage split case pump for water transfer and circulation

The Pentair Aurora 411 is the horizontal single-stage model of the Aurora 410 Series split case pumps. Pentair describes the 410 Series as combining modern performance with a trusted design, best for installations with small- to medium-scale pumping needs. The split case design lets the upper casing be removed for service and inspection without disturbing the suction and discharge piping, which is why this pump type is widely used for heating and cooling water, boiler feed, condensate, high-pressure water service and water transport and boosting.

The Aurora 411, 412 and 413 are designed for maximum interchangeability. The engineering guide lists 34 sizes grouped in seven power series, from 2×2-1/2×9 up to 14x16x18 (the 411 only is offered in the largest sizes), each defined by discharge diameter, suction diameter and maximum impeller diameter in inches.

Selecting the right size

Pentair stresses that individual performance curves must be checked for final selection. The 410 Series range charts cover 3500 RPM and 1000 RPM duties, and Pentair provides curves, dimensions, engineering data and installation manuals for the series. Give the duty point (flow and total dynamic head), liquid and temperature, suction condition (positive pressure or lift, which calls for lantern rings with packing), speed, drive and the material construction needed.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the pump size code, materials (bronze fitted, all iron or stainless steel), the sealing arrangement, rotation, base type and motor or driver. Another Aurora pump on this site is the Pentair Aurora 3800 Series end suction pump, and more are listed under pumps.

How the Pentair Aurora 411 split case pump works

In a centrifugal pump, a spinning impeller throws the liquid outward and the casing turns the speed into pressure. In a split case pump the casing is divided in a horizontal plane. The impeller sits between two bearings, and liquid enters from both sides of a double suction impeller, which gives smooth flow and good balance. The upper half of the casing can be lifted to reach the rotating parts, without moving the suction and discharge pipes. The Aurora 411 is the horizontal single-stage model of the 410 Series.

Where the Aurora 411 is used

  • Heating and cooling water circulation.
  • Boiler feed and condensate duties.
  • High-pressure water service.
  • Water transport, boosting and transfer.
  • Small to medium scale pumping systems in buildings and industry.

Selection checklist for the Aurora 411

  • Flow and head at the duty point, against the pump curve.
  • Size from the 34 sizes in the guide, such as 2×2-1/2×9 up to 14x16x18.
  • Case working pressure of 250 psi and flange class of 125# or 250#.
  • Fluid temperature up to 275 degrees F.
  • Construction: bronze fitted, all iron or stainless steel.
  • Shaft seal: packing as standard, or single mechanical seals.
  • Direction of rotation, right or left hand.
  • Driver type, power and speed.
  • Options such as a coupling guard, a drip pan, certified performance tests and water-cooled bearings.
  • Drinking water approvals such as NSF 61, when relevant.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Set the pump on a rigid baseplate and align the coupling carefully, then connect the pipes without strain on the casing. Prime the pump before the start and check the direction of rotation. Packing needs a little leakage for cooling, and it should be adjusted slowly. The bearings can be greased again at the intervals in the manual. For service, the upper casing is removed, and the rotor can be lifted out.

Requesting a quotation for the Pentair Aurora 411

Send the flow, the head, the fluid temperature and the preferred materials. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Double suction and bearing loads

Liquid enters the impeller from both sides, so the thrust along the shaft is nearly balanced. This lowers the load on the bearings.

Interchangeable models

The 411, 412 and 413 are designed to be interchangeable, so a plant can keep fewer spare parts.

Records and spare parts

Keep the pump data, the test curve and the list of spare parts with the plant records.

Planning an Aurora 411 pump order

A useful enquiry gives the flow, the head, the fluid and its temperature, the suction conditions and the driver. It also says whether the pump is for heating, cooling or water supply, and whether a particular flange class or approval is needed. The supplier can then choose the size and the construction from the guide.

Impeller and twin volute

The impeller is dynamically balanced and keyed to the shaft, and larger pumps of 10 inch and above use a twin volute, which reduces the radial load on the shaft.

Packing or mechanical seal

Packing is the standard on the 411 and is simple to adjust. A mechanical seal suits sites that want less leakage, and the choice is made with the fluid and the temperature.

About brand

Pentair is a water solutions company founded in 1966 in Minnesota. Its Aurora pump brand dates back to 1919, when the Aurora Pump and Manufacturing Company was founded in Aurora, Illinois, and Pentair acquired Aurora in 1997. Aurora pumps are made in North Aurora, Illinois, and are used in HVAC, fire protection, municipal water and industrial service.

Seven Star LLC lists the Pentair Aurora 3800 Series single-stage end suction centrifugal pump and supplies Aurora pumps and pump parts to building services contractors, utilities and industrial plants in Oman. Requests are handled by model, size and serial number.

Pentair Aurora 3800 Series pumps

The 3800 Series is a single-stage end suction design: liquid enters axially and leaves through a radial discharge, with one impeller on the shaft. Pentair builds it as the close-coupled Model 3801 and the flexible-coupled Model 3804, and lists it for HVAC, chilled and hot water, pressure boosting, municipal and industrial service. The same casing size can be built with different impeller diameters and motors, so the size alone does not define the pump.
