KRACHT VC 0.01 Micro Gear Type Flow Meter

Description

Gear flow meter for micro-dosing and very small volumes

The KRACHT VC 0.01 is the smallest gear type flow meter in the KRACHT VC range. KRACHT describes it as able to measure volume flows from 0.5 ml/min, which makes it suitable for micro-dosing of lubricating fluids, fuel injector test benches and other applications where standard flow meters cannot resolve the flow.

Two high-precision gears form the measuring unit and are driven by the liquid on the displacement principle. The gears run almost contact-free in the measuring chamber and are supported on ball bearings. An encoder scans the gear motion and outputs 512 pulses per revolution, which gives a much finer resolution than a conventional pick-up sensor and lets the electronics detect the direction of flow.

The pulse values above are theoretical. KRACHT supplies a test report with each meter, and the exact K-factor in that report should be used for the evaluation unit.

Signal evaluation and flow direction

The pre-amplifier delivers two square-wave channels offset by 90 degrees. In standard evaluation the receiving electronics count one rising edge per cycle on one channel. With 4-fold evaluation all rising and falling edges on both channels are counted, so the resolution rises by a factor of four. Because the phase relation between channel A and channel B reverses when the flow reverses, a suitable counter or PLC input can determine flow direction as well as volume.

Installation and selection notes

The meter can be mounted in any position and measures in either flow direction. The very fine filtration requirement is important: particles larger than the gear clearance can block or damage the measuring unit, so a filter below 6 μm should be fitted upstream. The permissible media are lubricating fluids within the stated operating limits, and KRACHT asks to be consulted in case of doubt.

Note that the media temperature range starts at 30 °C. For larger flows the standard KRACHT VC gear type flow meter covers sizes up to 700 l/min.

Documents and quotation

The attached KRACHT datasheet contains the type key, flow resistance curves, the signal diagram and the dimension drawing. For a quotation, state the full type code or the fluid, viscosity, flow range, pressure and temperature, and whether a matching evaluation unit is required. Other meters are listed under Flowmeters.

About brand

Gear technology runs through the whole KRACHT catalog: gear pumps to move oil, gear flow meters to measure it, gear motors to drive with it, and the valves that protect the circuit. The company was established in 1911 and is based in Werdohl, Germany. Seven Star LLC lists KRACHT pumps, flow meters, valves and hydraulic motors, and sources them by type key for machinery and marine users in Oman.

KRACHT pumps, flow meters and valves listed

The listing follows four product groups, pumps, fluid measurement, valves and drives:

  • Pump technology: KF gear pumps for transfer of lubricating and other fluids, the KF-F version for fuels, and KP high pressure gear pumps
  • Fluid measurement technology: gear type flow meters such as the VCA in aluminum
  • Valve technology: SPV and SPVF pressure relief valves, the DBD directly controlled poppet valve, HV and HVF pilot operated valves and the DV B hydraulically pilot controlled valve
  • Drive technology: KM hydraulic gear motors

Where KRACHT equipment is used

KRACHT equipment serves the marine, renewable energy, process technology and hydraulics industries. In practice that means lube oil and fuel oil transfer on engines, gearboxes and compressors, oil supply units, and metering of oils, resins, paints and other viscous media with gear flow meters in dosing and test bench systems. Enquiries from the GCC are mostly for a KRACHT pump or valve fitted to an imported machine or a ship's auxiliary system.

Ordering KRACHT parts: what we need

KRACHT products carry a type key on the nameplate that encodes size, direction of rotation, shaft end, housing and seal material, connections and special numbers. An example from this page is SPV 10 L1G 1 A 12. Send the complete key and the serial or order number shown with it. If the plate is damaged, send the fluid and viscosity, flow rate, operating pressure and temperature, drive speed, port type and size, and photos with main dimensions. For KRACHT flow meters add the measuring range and the pickup or electronics required. We compare the key with KRACHT documentation and supply the manufacturer's data sheet on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What flow range does the KRACHT VC 0.01 measure?
KRACHT specifies a measuring range of 0.5 to 500 ml/min for fluids with a viscosity of 0.8 to 60 mm2/s.
What output signal does the VC 0.01 provide?
It has an encoder with 512 pulses per revolution and two push-pull square-wave channels (A and B), which also allow flow direction detection.
What is the maximum working pressure?
The datasheet gives a maximum working pressure of 120 bar and a pressure drop of 7 bar.
Which filtration is required upstream?
KRACHT specifies a filter fineness below 6 micrometres because of the very small gear clearances.
How is the VC 0.01 connected to the pipework?
It is a plate-mounted meter; the stainless steel connection plate has G1/8 side threaded ports.
